Serenity I just saw serenity. I thought it was very good, if a bit cheezy in the end. Your take?
Very good, with a fair bit of the cheesiness you can't seem to get away from with Joss Whedon.

Also, I couldn't help but think that he just took the story arc for the (cancelled) rest of Season One and turned it into a movie.

Still, excellent and well worth seeing if you haven't already.

I saw it, as well, yesterday. I walked out thinking it was fantastic. I was pretty amused that someone found it so "insulting"...

A bit of a rant on that askme question (that wouldn't qualify as "answers or help in finding an answer") follows.

The asker doesn't seem to mind artificial gravity on tiny ships, thinks that the guy who wrote and directed a many-million-grossing science fiction movie needs to talk to a "real Sci Fi author", and says things like "terraforming isn't magic" ... but can't seem to conceive that a solar system in our very varied universe could be significantly more crowded than our own.

To me, the whole point of science fiction is to propose a /new/ setting and then see how humanity reacts to it. I don't know of other work set in a "crowded" solar system of "hundreds of habitable worlds". Fantastic! A new science fiction /setting/ to explore.

But anyway, I'm too worked up about that question.

The movie? It was great. I've only seen the first disk of the TV series -- so I was familiar with the characters but not much more. I was surprised by the deaths (especially the second) -- and glad to see that Joss isn't afraid to kill a character for the sake of narrative. I liked the approach to what could've been a "massive space battle" ... camerawork that felt hand-held and focused on a tiny ship that was slipping its way through. There could've been giant fleet battles, but, in keeping with the feeling of the show, the narrative was directed by our small band...

This might be an all together too long response for MeCha. Sorry.

The mister and I saw it yesterday as well. We both loved it. A friend of ours (we saw the movie with him) bought the series DVD. He needs to hurry up with it already!

Cowboy Bebop? And it's our very own solar system! (think asteroid belt) :-) Actually, if you like Firefly, chances are very good you'll like the Bebop.

I'm forbidden from seeing the movie until my cousin, who I turned on to Firefly, gets back from a trip. I'm sitting here all alone in the dark ... waiting. *cries*

I need to go see this sometime this week. I didn't like the show as well when I caught a few episodes of it to begin with but I must have been in a weird mood because I recently bought the DVD and loved them all.

When, oh when will I remember to use spellcheck? I've got this new ennie weenie laptop and I can't get the hang of the ennie weenie keyboard. That's my excuse. Anyway, saw the movie and didn't really get it. Must see the series I guess.
