Songs about the Fab 04. Many wonders within.→[More:]Because I'm a feind for pop-culture epiphenomena like this. First the Beatle-ettes offers an answer record, Gene Cornish & the Unbeetables make a statement of ambition (they got their wish, kind of, they became the Young Rascals), Donna Lynn laments the boys effect on hairstyles and dating, aging greasers Ray Ruff & the Checkmates try to keep up, Bonnie Jo Mason (later known as Cher) declares her love for one Richard Starkey, Bonnie Brooks and the Vernon Girls offer tributes, and curmudgeon Allan Sherman offers a dissenting opinion (but as Dave Marsh put it, Paul McCartney got a bigger obituary than Allan Sherman without dying).

There's more (including a weeper called "The Beatle's Barber," which I've never been able to hunt down) but this should do ya for now. (all songs yousendit, as usual)

Hmmm...no Rutles?

(I should track down my Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny cover of "Hello Goodbye." When I played that on a Beatles radio show, I got death threats.)

Dude, the Beatle covers in my collection (hell, the versions of "Day Tripper," alone) could constitute a post (or several) of their own, but, for you, here's girl group Reparata & the Delrons (of "I'm Nobody's Baby Now" renown) taking a whack at "If I Fell.".

And they're covers of, rather than songs about, but here you can find both Al Green's transcendent "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and Stevie Wonder's "We Can Work It Out."`

The "Pina Colada Guy" Rupert Holmes did a tongue-in-cheek "I Don't Wanna Hold Your Hand" ten years after the original...

I'll never forget the refrain:
"Hold your hand, hold your hand,
I don't wanna hold your hand.
That was ten long years ago.
I no longer move that slow..."

I don't have the song on file but I do have some other little-known Holmes goodies, including a big-band-styled salute to BAD musicians and a pick-up song done to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner (you see, he met her at a baseball game... I promise to put that one up before the World Series)

I'll try to remember to upload The Residents' "Beyond the Valley of A Day in the Life" when I get home. It's an awesome little collage of Beatles sounds that was the B-Side to a cover they did of "Flying".

i didn't know Cher ever recorded anything before with Sonny...she was so young even then--she must have been like 15 or something.
