"The Juan de Fuca Ridge is located on the seafloor where two tectonic plates are separating. This expedition will focus on a suite of undersea hot springs associated with volcanoes and located at the northern end of the Ridge. This area, known as the Endeavour hydrothermal field, is among the most geologically and biologically active in the global network of mid-ocean ridges. Here, animals live without sunlight one and one-half miles beneath the surface of the ocean. These organisms live in one of the most extreme environments on earth, thriving on gases and heat carried to the seafloor by the underwater hot springs."

"Expedition to the Underwater Volcanoes of the Northeast Pacific” will take you to the bottom of the seafloor along the Juan de Fuca Ridge. University of Washington professors of Oceanography John Delaney and Deborah Kelley will lead this exciting expedition."
