I just found $3000... [More:]in AmEx Travellers Cheques. Unfortunately, the owner has a very common name so the phone book is useless for contacting him. So, I called AmEx 74 minutes and 18 secoonds ago. I'm still on hold (though they say I'm a very important customer and they're thankful for my patience).

Should I just hang up and throw these things in the garbage or what?
Sometimes doing the right thing is a pain in the ass. But it's still the right thing. I guess if AmEx added an "If you are a do-gooder Press #7 to speak immediately with an operator" function it'd be abused by people who really just want to complain about something.

Does this phone system shortcut help? From BoingBoing.

Don't American Express have a system for replacing cheques?

P_G, I believe they do. I mean, I don't think getting thru here will do anything but give the purchaser peace of mind (ie, if he doesn't realize he lost them yet, I assume AmEx will call him and tell him not to worry when he does). Whether I get thru or not, he won't lose any money.

106 minutes and 35 seconds. Haven't spoke to a human yet. I think this thing is broken.

Okay, they finally picked up. And then they told me it was impossible that I was on hold for that long. Idiots.

I know a guy that'll hook you up with a perfect i.d. He does charge, naturally, a nominal fee of $3015.00, and I'd probably want a lil' somethin'somethin' for my troubles.

Let me know.

You just earned a bunch of good karma.

puddinghead, we'll see, I suppose. I am waiting to hear on whether or not I got an apartment. If what goes around truly comes around I sure could use it.

I hope that it does, dobbs, I really really do.

Karma is, by definition, bad. Just had to chime in with that little nugget.

dg, not hardly true.

Karma refers to the totality of our actions and their concomitant reactions in this and previous lives, all of which determines our future.... The thought of karma as punishment or being retributive is incorrect, as it is simply an extended expression of natural acts.

Perhaps in Jainism, which "tries to avoid karma" ...

It's a common (Western) myth that karma is "good" or "bad", and neither are true. Karma is just energy that moves to and fro.

And it's not just the Jains that try to avoid karma, it's all Eastern religions/spirtual paths: the whole point is to have completed your karma on Earth so you can merge with the infinite.
