Too much time on my hands? Maybe so... maybe so.
Here's the side-by-side:

Oh So Subtle. Love it.

You rock. Absolutely rock. This should become a meme.
posted by shane 16 September | 09:09
taz, you should put your website address on that image. It's gonna get forwarded all over the place.

Well, a great meme would be to subvert every single one of those hamfisted theatrical insults staged by the U.S. president's marketing department. Make 'em think twice... or more. They've had an easy job so far; maybe they should have to start sweating the job.

It's not just a Bush thing, either, though this administration has taken it to new heights. When I first moved to Greece (in the Clinton era), I couldn't believe how less-than-impressive the Prime Minister would look in every photo setting... I was like, "Somebody, please! At least find him a tailor!" But I've come to really appreciate the honesty of the imagery. I think the most they do here is slap a little pancake makeup on him every now and then for big televised things (which does tend to make it all look very Mickey Mouse when compared to the Operas that are every single Bush public appearance). Bless 'em.

(on preview... eh. I'm not even doing anything with my regular site, and I don't think we really want any hordes here at Mecha. Plus it would be fun to be the originator of one of those "everywhere" anonymous web memes for once. But it's probably too subtle for that much sprawl.)

It's almost a little too subtle. It's gorgeous and nuanced for sure, but how many average folks are going to remember that the Rushmore 4 aren't normally so stern and dout looking? ;)

hah!

btw, my favorite is Lincoln. He's saying, "oh... snap!!" Washington is getting ready to hurl.

I love it. I wonder how it would work as an animated GIF-type thing. Could we actually see First-George's eyebrow rise as a result of Last-George?
posted by mmahaffie 16 September | 10:08
Maybe one of them should stick out his tongue...
posted by shane 16 September | 10:35
ooh! I hope there are modified iterations. It would be fun to see a lot of different interpretations... sort of like a distributed Worth1000 thingy.

I have to learn more photoshop, if only to add a tear to the corner of Washington's eye....
posted by mmahaffie 16 September | 10:46
Tears are hard. Not in real life, but in Photoshop. (I might have learned something from this, but I'm not sure.)

Also... Woohoo. Damn good soundbite from alumshubby. Props 'n stuff.

That's really great taz. You continue, as ever, one of my heroes.

That's awesome, taz.

Time well spent.

I'd put this on my desktop if it weren't for, you know, the Bush thing.
posted by mudpuppie 16 September | 15:03
Subtle, indeed--probably took me a good 20 times going back and forth between the two before I caught it.
posted by DevilsAdvocate 16 September | 15:22
It took me a bit of scrolling back and forth (okay, I'm slow, so sue me) before I got it. Truly wonderful work, taz.
posted by deborah 16 September | 15:23
First lol of the day! Just subtle enough to flavour the pic without being "jokey".
