Join me for lunch? Here's what I ate, and what I saw at lunch today. Tell me a little something about your lunch?
I haven't had lunch yet. When I do, it'll be chips and candy from the vending machine plus a can of pineapple-orange drink to wash it down. And some cigarettes. I usual don't eat a real meal till I get home.
Half a pita bread with hummus in it, a peach and a breaded buffalo chicken finger. Washed down with water and a little milk, cuz the chicken was spicy.
Anyway. Chicken Cheese-steak. At a local eatery with a group of 8 other state planner-types. We were treating our summer University intern to his farewell lunch. Our table was just long enough for two simultaneous discussions.
It was interesting to track conversational "memes" as they flowed around the table; our end mentioned an actor's remarks on a Katrina fund-raiser the other night. That led us to a discussion of that actor's new TV show. Someone at the other end heard our discussion of the show and pitched in with what they'd heard said actor say on the fund-raiser the other night.
Lunchtime is now. Cold corn on the cob lightly smeared with garlic mayonnaise and a reheated zucchini/courgette fritter (leftovers). A pile of windfall plums. A slice of homemade bread. Sipping iced tea with lemon to cool down after stacking firewood all morning.
A chicken sandwich with lettuce and cheddar cheese (my faaavorite) and a small taco salad. We talked about GREs and standardized testing and how all the bad things in my life are due to procrastination. Same as yesterday, same as tomorrow.
I had an Amy's Teriyaki bowl, which I prepared by placing in the microwave. I have been on the phone with Apple since then, for about two hours now, mostly on hold. It's awesome.
I wound up having a bag of Sour Cream & Cheddar Ruffles, 2 packs of Sunkist Fruit Gems and a pint carton of Orange Peach Mango juice. I may stop at mandlers after work for sausage and beer. (Yeah, I'm being coming obsessed with that place, until I'm sick of it.
I didn't have time to make a lunch today as I was racing to finish preparing for class, (Oedipus Rex today). But I went upstairs around noon to check my mailbox and to make copies in the English Dept, and there were plates and plates of homemade cookies. I had a Raisin Oatmeal and a two Chocolate Chips.
And I needed those cookies because the copier was out of toner, and very few of my students have done the reading--so the whole "he sowed the loins his father sowed" is coming as quite a surprise to many of them.
I had a Luna Burger — Homemade veggie burger, tomato, red onion, sprouts and homemade Russian dressing on a whole grain bun with chips and salsa on the side.
Unfortunately, no balancing men, and i gave up on one of my crushes today too.
