CrudCrud is one of my favorite mp3 blogs. He consistently posts great tunes from unexplored corners of the universe, most of them lifted from 45's that he bought for under $5.
→[More:]Today he offers a great piece on Rosie & the Originals' "Angel Baby," and an mp3 of it's b-side. I was surprised (and somewhat disturbed) to learn that the group was from Southern California, rather than New York City, since it's one of the most New York-y records ever made.. I say disturbed because the sound of "Angel Baby," always had me imagining Rosie as a chick with inch long eyelashes, black hip-huggers and a huge blond bouffant leaning against an Arthur Avenue streetlamp smoking away and crooning her heart out to the night.
The b-side, "Give Me Love," is a revelation as well, and is nothing like the A. It's got all the groove of a great R&B song and the exuberant go-for-broke bumbling charm of great garage rock.
Records like this are what crate-digging and net-scouring are all about.
