Twelve feet under?
posted by carter 22 August | 12:22
I never watched Six Feet Under. I still haven't recovered from the cancellation of Fish, frankly.

In other news, Mash was mashed; Friends is Friendless; FireFly was Fired; Angel went to heaven and ...
erm...
Cheers called Last Orders.

What?! No! No no no no NO.
posted by Specklet 22 August | 13:08
As long as Airwolf wasn't cancelled, I'll be happy.

On the other hand, House is In The House!
posted by mmahaffie 22 August | 13:13
Mr Dalek I think you'd better sit down, I have some bad news...

AHHH! Damnit Quatermass! Damnit to hell! Why!
Why did you do this to me?
posted by Capn 22 August | 13:35
Quartermass, I'm going to kill you.
Seriously, you suck.
posted by Specklet 22 August | 13:39
Fuck SFU. My "Manimal" DVD retrospective is ace.
Disclaimer: I really love SFU but since my first love, Lili Taylor is no longer on it, I quit.

All snark aside--I bawled like a freakin' baby. My eyes are still swollen today. That was a rough finale.
posted by jrossi4r 22 August | 13:57
(sorry! - I just just responding to all of the headlines everywhere spoiling it for me, and assumed (wrongly) that people knew and/or were talking about it.) I really am sorry.
posted by Quartermass 22 August | 13:57
I deliberately avoided the headlines. Sigh.
posted by Specklet 22 August | 13:58
i deleted Quartermass' comment as per his request. now i feel all dirty inside though, like i got mathowie on me or something.
posted by quonsar 22 August | 14:09
Oooo you dirty boy. Edit me. Edit me again. Ooooo it feels so gooooooood.
posted by iconomy 22 August | 14:23
I think I'll go here for dinner. I want ribs, but i can't decide whether I want sweet-n-sticky or memphis dry rub.
posted by jonmc 22 August | 14:48
jon, I've never had ribs, what's the difference?
posted by Specklet 22 August | 15:03
never had ribs? you poor deprived child. There must be a good rib joint in Portland, somewhere...

one's covered with a sweet sticky BBQ sauce, the other is rubbed with a mixture of dry spices before cooking.
posted by jonmc 22 August | 15:16
I liked the first season. After that, I lost interest.
posted by kmellis 22 August | 15:21
I just found out Daisy Mae's has no seating. I guess I'll go here...

Why does getting mathowie on you make you feel dirty inside?
posted by danostuporstar 22 August | 15:28
Mmmm. I've been there for Frito pie and lemonade, jonmc. Tasty.
posted by Hugh Janus 22 August | 15:28
I don't really eat red meat (and was vegetarian for about 27 years), but I'd be willing to try a bite...

I'm having sushi for lunch. Salmon sashimi, yum.
posted by Specklet 22 August | 15:29
I've had the chicken fried steak and the peach margaitas, they're good too. I haven't been here in a while. Last time I had a badass crawfish boil...

(the mrs. is outta town so I'm fending for myself...)
posted by jonmc 22 August | 15:33
I don't really eat red meat

Be careful, ribs (and pulled pork and other BBQ) might turn you into a full fledged carnivore. It's that good when it's done right.
posted by jonmc 22 August | 15:34
Ever go to Live Bait? I've had good catfish there but the gumbo is nothing to sneeze home about.
posted by Hugh Janus 22 August | 15:36
I went to live bait. The food was good, but the service was horrendous.
posted by jonmc 22 August | 15:37
Yep, I had bad service there too. Nice beer selection there, too (Abita).
posted by Hugh Janus 22 August | 15:42
I'm leaning towards great jones. It ain't much of a walk, and I'm hungry...
posted by jonmc 22 August | 15:45
Speck, you need to indulge me in some Portland nostalgia and tell me where you go for your sushi!
posted by Frisbee Girl 22 August | 15:48
Sorry, did you say Grace Jones?

mmmmm I eat at Great Jones every couple of weeks, jonmc. Cheap. Good corn bread. Abita.
posted by gaspode 22 August | 16:27
FG, the best is Saburo's, no contest. I also like Yoko's but they can be a little pricey.

I'm prolly coming to SF on business in the next couple months, wanna go to Matsuya (Noe Valley) for sushi?
posted by Specklet 22 August | 17:09
Speck, you just named my two favorite sushi places in Portland. YUUUUUM!

Email me when you get the deets for your SF trip, a-sushi-ing we will certainly go, amongst anything else (*cough* MeCha meet up ANYONE?) you have time for as well.

Yay!
posted by Specklet 22 August | 18:17
I watched the last 15 minutes of the episode twice (thanks, TiVo), even though I had tears streaming down my face. Beautiful work.
posted by matildaben 22 August | 20:17
JUst for follow-up's sake, I went to great jones and hat cornmeal fried catfish with red beans & rice and several abita ambers and vodka & lemonades.
posted by jonmc 22 August | 20:52
They lost me in their slow DVD releases. I own the first season. Couldn't wait for the second... waited... waited... waited. I think I eventually wrote them to say "you lost me".

Then I did see some of the 2nd, and 3rd, and found it to be getting a little sensational for my tastes, but maybe that was a result of not following it through epi by epi.

...getting a little sensational for my tastes
That's how I felt, too.
posted by kmellis 22 August | 21:43
Ah. Just watched the finale. I really liked the way they tied everything up, even if it was a bit maudlin. It was good mauldin though, you know?
posted by mudpuppie 23 August | 02:28
I cried like a baby. It was Claire's conversation with her mother about going to New York that started it and then everything that came after just kept the tears going. I thought it was a great way to wrap everything up.
posted by LeeJay 23 August | 12:59
I've only seen the first season, since that's all that the Toronto Public Library has. When I got all 11 episodes, I wondered how on earth I'd watch them all in a week. Then I watched them in two days. It was crack, I tell you.
posted by Orange Swan 23 August | 13:37
Canada is running a wee bit behind: the first season ran last year. They're finally running the second season now (and I think it's finally available on DVD). That's all due to contract crap with Showcase (the channel that runs it here). However, I did see the two next to the last episodes of season four (hotel cable, dontchaknow). I was crying like a baby.
