Let's go to Dollywood. I have this hankerin' to go to Dollywood next week. Look at what you can get to eat! If I go I'll send y'all a postcard.
[More:]Actually I can't afford it, sigh. Even though it's only about 2 hours away. But my sorrow is relieved a bit since my friend who has been there says it isn't as wondrously tacky as one might hope: "There's a bunch of crafty stuff like handmade brooms. No pigs made out of clorox bottles or anything good like that."
mygothlaundry,
Shit, save up and go, 'cause according to that food page you can eat at a place called Aunt Granny's, which is boss. Also at the top of that food page there is a dude just laying into a turkey leg while his wife looks on with total devotion. Awesome.

and Dolly is a true country-music Goddess, and cooler than a boatload of Natalie Merchants and Paula Coles without even breaking a sweat.

Heh. From this page a photo and it's caption:

Fan David Wayne Tinch decided to get political this past Halloween, dressing as Dolly in a burka to symbolize that even a repressive society like that in the Middle East wouldn’t be able to hold back a strong woman.

jonmc: I'll second that statement. Although she's looking more and more like the Joker these days....

Not that that matters of course.
She *is* Dolly Parton.

Omigod, dodgy. I am speechless. Brain trying to comprehend . . .

I'm going to Branson this weekend. That's close enough.

Dolly is the bomb, this is true.

I have always wanted to see DollyLand...just to say I've been there. :) It's like going to Graceland, ya know...because, I'm southern and have been given to understand that a trip to Graceland is like unto the call to Mecca...in that if you don't do it by a certain age, they revoke your right to eat grits in peace.

That body just can't be real.

I live a couple of miles from Silver Dollar City, which is really the same place. Even has the same vendors. Though I sneak in and just do the rides.

The boobs are ridiculous of course but her body does seem to be in remarkably good shape for a sixty year old. I have no idea what they can do to the body with plastic surgery now - so I have no idea who should take the credit. It's a shame what she's done to her face though, she looks more and more like her drag act imitators every year. I like Dolly, she always comes across as a very nice person and I have a lot of time for people who just want to entertain.

I confess that a lot of the food mentioned on the Dollywood menu sounds really good to me. But the expression “all you care to eat” cracks me up: you get to be dainty and stuff your face, all at the same time.

yes, but:

It's a shame what she's done to her face

right on. I hate to see my American legends Botoxed into oblivion. she is indeed in very good shape, but the face work is appalling. we'll love even her wrinkles and lines -- she doesn't have to put up with that sorry, misogynistic game anymore, no artist of her talent should at this point in a career.

either that, or if she wants to have work done _for herself_, well, she should choose a better surgeon, God knows there are many great ones who can make subtle work look good.

and you know, speaking of another American legend, the American recording artist I admire and love the most: I loved it when Johnny Cash quit dyeing his hair pitch black, at his age. for God's sake.

this euroinfidel went (to Graceland, not Mecca) and was duly enlightened.
