Speaking of bibles... Fans of Stryper who pre-order their new CD through their website will get a free pocket New Testament autographed by a member of the band!
As one of the few MeChatters who will publicly admit to enjoying both heavy metal and Christian rock, I will say this: Stryper didn't acquit themselves too well on either front.
Also, when I worked in a bookstore, we had this extremely ornate hand-stitched leather Bible in stock. It went for $300 or so. We always used to joke that for that price, it better be signed by the author.
You see, me3dia, when I open a Metachat thread, I have to scroll up to see the first couple of comments, which is why I repeated your joke about the author signing the book. That's why. Not because I'm a moron. No sir.
Hey, my first concert was Billy Joel too, in 1978. In Oklahoma City. We even brought lighters. And got told we couldn't light them or we'd get tossed out. We did anyway. We were rebels. (Hell, a couple of years ago, I went to the local fair and saw on consecutive days Willie Nelson, Ted Nugent, and Weird Al. Al was the best!)
highly recommended Christian rock: Sanctus Real, Falling Up, Thousand Foot Krutch, The Benjamin Gate, Toby Mac, Krystal Myers, Pillar, Kutless and the new Skillet. rockin!
Stryper stands for Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness
Bollocks!
Back when I saw them in 1987 (the To Hell With the Devil tour), the story was that they had to change their name from "Striper" because people pronounced it "stripper".
"I looked around for something to change the drift of the conversation and spied four men in black-and-yellow bumblebee suits riding by, flying down the hill.
Gary: Look! It’s Stryper! They ride bicycles now."
my first ever concert was... get ready for it... iron butterfly. [sounds of creaking bones] a month or so later i saw frank zappa and the mothers at the same venue.
