Marsupial Mania! [More:]Yesterday, I had my first kangaroo steak for lunch. Then today, as if to turn me towards vegetarianism, there were two beautiful big kangaroos sunning themselves in the grass by the carpark as I walked back to the office (vege soup today, so the guilt wasn't too strong).

What's your favourite marsupial?
I'm gonna have to go with the possum, although I'm not sure why. They're ugly and cranky and not terribly bright. I've had the same said of me, so maybe there's some identification going on.

Platypus. They rule.

I actually had a kangaroo steak on Christmas Day in Melbourne. It wasn't bad.

Yeah I enjoyed the roo steak. I look forward to eating more once I get over how cute they are.

Did you mean favorite marsupial to eat? 'Cause there's no way in hell I'm eating a possum. I'm not much of a meat-eater anyway, but the idea of grawing on this guy just makes me want to go to bed hungry.

Favourite marsupials? Well kangaroos are definitely the tastiest. Kangaroo steaks go great in curry's and casseroles, if you've got plenty of patience. If you're just cooking the steak straight, you gotta be really careful with it, because even slight overcooking can leave it as tough as old rubber. It's not good to have it too rare, either, because some kangaroo carries parasites. Try marinating the kangaroo in some nice tawny port and fresh peppercorns.

Possums make great little dashboard covers. Unfortunately, my dog started chewing on mine.

Koalas are fucking evil. Seriously, don't ever be tempted to cuddle one because they will take your fucking nose off. Don't be fooled by that teddy bear appearance. It's all a show. They are also environmental terrorists. And the sound they make when screwing is truly horrendous.

Platypuses (not Platypi - "Platy" is Greek, so don't go throwing those Latin plural endings around) are kind of cool. Surprisingly small. Surprisingly poisonous. They really are an evolutionary backwater.

I'm a big fan of Australian possums (and who wouldn't be? They're cute as, although an environmental menace in NZ).

bmarkey: favourite to eat, cuddle or just admire from afar. It's all good.

What in sweet fiery hell are you people talking about? It's like you're from a different hemisphere or something.

I think it would have to be the Elegant Fat-tailed Mouse Opossum (Thylamys elegans).

Well, I'd have to say it's a toss-up between the wombat and the bandicoot. (Nice bandicoots image here)

So I feel dumb asking, but I have a picture I really want to share with you guys, but I don't know how to get it from my machine onto Metachat. What's the html to do this?

you need to have it online to link to it, so if you don't have space to upload it on a website, you can use flickr or get someone to host it for you.

ah, I missed that Dodygeezer beat me to it. I owe you a beer now Dodgy.

I've held a Koala when I was a kid. I remember that their really hard claw-paws creeped the hell out of me.

Specklet, you can set yourself up a free account at photobucket or imageshack, or you don't even need to set up an account at imageshack if you don't want to - you can do a one-off kind of thing without even registering.

Once you've uploaded an image from your computer to one of these places, you need to copy the url of the photo (the url for this photo, for example is http://pic.photobucket.com/4.jpg), and in your comment window here, click the "image" button and paste in the url. That will take care of the html for you.
