If it's Thursday, it must be songs about booze, drugs, and sex.
Beer and Kisses, Amy Rigby

Drinkers Peace, Guided By Voices.

Robert Pollard (a notorious drinker) and his ultra depressing ode to alcohol. Seems like a sweet song until you realize the "you" in the song is booze.

"I Get a contact buzz / Can't remember what the problem was / I find it hard to even care / life was too real until you got there"

Super Sex by Morphine: ’I got the whiskey baby/I got the whiskey I got the cigarettes.’

I'm going with Children of Bodom, Trashed Lost & Strungout. Enjoy that stellar lyric transcription.

(I highly recommend the Trashed, Lost & Strungout DVD which includes a tour around Helsinki with the band, pointing out such famous landmarks such as the Sibelius Motherfucking Monument).

Freakin' At The Freaker's Ball - Dr Hook. It's got all three.

It's what I have at work. More when I'm home.

I would post "Heroin" and "Venus in Furs" but I have them only as oggs. Plus it would be, like, obvious.

I can't wait till I get home, I'm gonna post the living hell out of this thing!

I don't how to post a song, here's a title though: "Lit Up" by Buckcherry. Crap production; kickass rock.

Clarence Ashley's "My Sweet Farm Girl". It's in ogg format so for the benefit of those as can't play it I produce the lyrics:
My sweet farm girl
She's jolly of my pride
She knows I know
How to keep her satisfied
So early in the morning
I cut her grass you bet
Pull up the hose
I keep her lawn all wet
I close her fire
I shake her ashes down
I close her fire
I shake her ashes down
We eat our breakfast
Then we ride on back to town
I keep her garden
All free from bugs and weeds
I keep her garden
All free from bugs and weeds
I plow her land
And then I sow my seeds
I trim her hedges
I clean out her back yard
I trim her hedges
I clean out her back yard
She loves her daddy
Because I'm long and hard.

I can't send them, but in my 'fantasy football' post to this thread:

"Heroin Girl" - Everclear
"The Good Times Are Killing Me" - Modest Mouse
"Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)" - My Bloody Valentine

Soul Asylum, Summer of the Drugs

My sister got bit by a copperhead snake
In the woods behind the house
Nobody was home so I grabbed her foot
And I sucked that poison out

My sister got better in a month or two
When the swelling it went down
But I'd started off my teenage years with a poison in my mouth

And we were too young to be hippies
Missed out on the love
Turned to a teen in the late 70's
In the summer of the drugs

Mama and daddy could never understand, their life was never dull
Their idea of a rollicking time was a kitchen tap appall
Acid grass downs and speed, junk those days were made of
How could they suspect those kids where the monsters meet their makers

Mommies and daddies were too shy to talk about those birds and bees
Integrated schools had stopped the facts of life were these
Girls and boys went away and came back, empty after the weekend
The talk on the phone consisted of hushed voices speaking

Boys and girls in every town
Sand man spread his sand around
Now we are just waking up
From a summer of drugs

Always seemed like the perfect anthem for my generation, somehow.

Victoria Williams wrote that song actually.

Song posting instructions for Hugh Janus (whose email address looks suspiciously bogus):

1) Go to www.yousendit.com.

2) Enter your own (real) email address and a file to upload.

3) Click "send."

After the file uploads, you'll be provided with a link to your song, which you can then share with people here. The email you receive from yousendit can be forwarded to someone or trashed, as you wish.

I only have cds. I don't have a home computer. And I can't access any web-based email accounts (that I know of) from my computer here at work. I'm stymied by my own accidental ludditude.

Now there's just one thing that I need, not sympathy and I don't want no pity, but a computer, a real computer...

Moulty!

Don't turn away...

Hugh, get a cheapo pc for home ($399, no?) or a mac mini. Come join the 21st century, won't ya? (and all the coolest kids have one at home)

If I save a dollar a day, I should have one next year.

Naw, fer real, I'll be up and running soon enough. Just need to put together the gettus is all. Thanks for the tip. And listen to Moulty.

Anything Dr Hook ever did, pretty much.
The first album was "Dr Hook & the Medicine Show", if you want to do a search. After that, it was just Dr Hook.

Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball (drugs, sex, booze, whatever)
Carry Me Carrie (booze)
Get My Rocks Off (sex)
Queen of the Silver Dollar (booze)
Bad Eye Bill (sex)
Penicillin Penny (sex)
Acapulco Goldie (sex & drugs)
Makin' It Natural (drugs)
Get My Rocks Off (sex)
Lookin' For Pussy (not my fav)
Roland The Roadie And Getrude The Groupie (sex)
If I'd Only Come And Gone (not my fav)
Acapulco Goldie (sex)
Up On The Mountain (sex, of the lesbian kind)
Roland The Roadie And Gertrude The Groupie (just weird, sex)
Jungle To The Zoo (just great)
I Got Stoned And I Missed It (drugs)

And something I can't find, called "Don't Give a Dose To The One You Love Most", which was written for a Public TV Special on STDs a bunch of years ago. (This was so old, they weren't STDs then. It was venereal disease, and you couldn't possibly have known anyone who had one. You were a Nice Person, and Nice People did not get them. I think that was filed under Shel Silverstein, and he did some pretty wild stuff for his era.)

They do funky stuff and love ballads; I played all Dr Hook at my last wedding reception. Why, yes, I am weird, thank you for asking. And, yes, I've been married several times.
