You know why birds don't write their memoirs? I do. But what I don't know is the exact wording of the reason, or the exact wording of what Calvin and Hobbes say in the following panels. And I'd like to know, preferably without Asking Metafilter.
According to this Google cached page the strip you're looking for is in the Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary book. Somebody there transcribes it as:
(C) "You know why birds don't write memoirs? Because birds don't lead epic lives, that's why! Who wants to read about a stupid bird?" (C) "This is off the topic, but have you ever noticed how sometimes, someone will say something completely off the wall? What are you supposed to do? Just ignore it?" (H) "Sometimes, if you wait, he'll top himself." (C) "I say you just sock him right then and there!"
