Delectable pop truffle Tuesday! A new institution. Pop song tuesday! Post yours (You Send it only lasts for 7 days or 25 downloads, but it is easy to use)

My choice is "Never Forget Where You Get Them" by Go Back Snowball (2002) - a collaboration between Robert Pollard (of Guided By Voices) and Mac McCaughan (of Superchunk). Delectable pop truffle goodness.
For pop truffle Tuesday, it has to be Manic Monday, by The Bangles.

Don't really understand what sort of service these dudes are providing. I send them the mp3 so they can send it to somebody I nominate? Granted, I'm stoopid, but still...

Upload the song, send the email to yourself, and then post the link they send you in your inbox.

Valli-The More I See You

totally delectable french/english pop--a remake of Doris Day's original. : >

What could be poppier than a drum-playing invertebrate perpetuating medical fraud? I mean, come on!
posted by mudpuppie 26 July | 19:48
But then, there's also poppy-with-attitude, and poppy-without-shame.

I can't decide.
posted by mudpuppie 26 July | 19:59
that Never Forget kinda reminds me of Bowie mixed with Wings : >

i like this idea--every thurs?

The Raspberries "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)".

A pop gem about writing hits. It does not get any better.
posted by jonmc 26 July | 20:29
Bonus Raspberries. One of the perfect peices of top 40 pop-rock ever.

Three more:

After Tea - Not Just A Flower In Your Hair. One of the best post Sgt. Peppers Beatles imitations.

Aislers Set - Long Division. A latter-day gem.

Andy Pratt - Avenging Annie aburied gem from the 70's singer/songwriter mishegoss.

That's just the "A's." I've got tons more.

This song is simultaneously a gorgeous piece of pop songcraft and one of the darkest, most depressing songs in my collection.
posted by jonmc 26 July | 21:02
I don't know if it counts as pop (probably not) but I love this catchy lil song. Utica Institute Jubilee Singers - Peter on the Sea.

OMG!!! Sail Away is one of my all time favorite songs of all time!!!

My band used to do a rad cover of it, where the piano line was played on a distorted bass.
posted by Quartermass 26 July | 22:08
and for the numbnutses out there, we ain't talking about the Styx song.

posted by mudpuppie 26 July | 23:09
You have to admit, it's funny. And it was cut in the mid 60's so it's not some neo-con thing, just some joker having good-natured fun. Relax...

NTM, I grew up in an Irish catholic household. If anyone's entitled to make fun of the fucking Kennedy's, it's me.
posted by jonmc 26 July | 23:29
That's Steve Earle. I think he's being ironic. Unless his politics have taken a 180 since the last I heard.

+/- (plus/minus), matilda--it's good, no?
posted by amberglow 26 July | 23:38
Freaky thing about that Senator Bobby Song: they did a sequel, a cover of "Mellow Yellow" but it was released the day Bobby Kennedy was shot so it sank like a stone. Freaky.
posted by jonmc 26 July | 23:39
You should check out that album, amberglow. It's the best political album of the Bush years.

Steve Earle, Revolution Starts Now.

Greg Macpherson - The Day the Water Dried Up From the Tap

This is the real political shit. This song will knock you on your ass.

Not Tuesday anymore, but I finally came up with something...
Apoptygma Berzerk covering Metallica's Fade to Black.

As an EBM dance track.

If you like Metallica you'll hate this. But I don't, and love it.
