CTS. I've been starting to feel Carpal Tunnel-like sensations in my right arm. What should (can) I do?
ease off the wanking and wear a wrist brace- also, make sure that when you are mousing/typing/touchpadding/trackballing that you are not reaching up, that you are elevated above the keyboard, and have armrests on your chair. In addition, if you are doing any other repetitive-motion tasks, stop them, or modify them to use less wrist and more shoulder/forearm if you can. Take a lot of breaks, whether typing or doing whatever else it is that you're doing to cause and/or perpetuate this.

Run off and type a question about it? :P

Stretch. Take breaks. Type properly. Get a good keyboard. Don't keep typing while it hurts or it's inflamed.

I've been typing practically non-stop for twenty three years. Typing properly helps a lot. Stretching helps. Even still, my wrists are feeling it.

Also, apple II keyboards suck. Even back when I was a kid I'd be in serious pain typing on one of those slanted bastards. I must have really, really wanted to type in that 2,000 line BASIC Star Trek game from the back of BYTE magazine.

See these two entries from go ask alice (that site, plus Dr Weil are well worth bookmarking). Oh and myphysicians.com also. Between the three, there's a great stock of medical advice in down to earth language.

Voice recognition software (ViaVoice, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.) might help you do less typing. As a sufferer, I've found a desk chair with higher arm supports and better posture helps a LOT.

If it hurts and doesn't go away, see a competent doctor.

Or not.

I second the doctor thing. I went in for wrist pain and the doctor told me it was a good thing I came in early as most people come in only after it gets so bad they require surgery. We were able to cut mine off at the pass and no surgery required.

Cut your wrists off? Horrible! If that's how doctors deal with carpal tunnel these days, I recommend against it.

i found that the mouse gave me more pain than anything else, and that swapping to left handed mouse use only takes an hour or two (before it's a no brainer) the first time you do it (after that, you can swap at will). don't alter the button order, though, or you'll annoy a lot of people whenever you share a machine.

so swap to left handed mousing and you might find things are fixed.
