Violet, you're turning violet! So I just came back from seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and... wow. Put this movie on your list of things to see this weekend. [More:] I was more a fan of the book than I was of the Gene Wilder movie (which always aggravated me because it wasn't very true-to-form), but even if you were the other way around (or even *gasp!* never read the book), I think you'd really enjoy it.
thank you for the lack of spoiler
i hope to have something to say after the fact

Heh. Gene Wilder was the only thing that made the original tolerable, and only barely.

The original movie is so terrible and so sweet I got diabetes from it. Oh, and it sucks. A f'ing *MUSICAL*? With terrible, cloying music? And a complete disregard for the creepiness and darkness that the book was drenched in? Dahl must have blown a headgasket.

it was wonderful, and hysterical, and still mean and odd. : P

(maybe you had to have seen it when it was new?)

Love the original movie. Sweet? Maybe a bit; creepy definitely. Never read the book (please, don't hurt me!). Looking forward to Charlie.

Willy Wonka (along with the Wizard of Oz) scared the shit out of me as a kid. I mean, come on, the Oompa Loompas were just damned creepy. Watched them both every year, though.

I loved the Wilder film but I'm looking forward to seeing a version more faithful to the book. Thanks for the positive heads up!
