emcee iii ! (mostly.) My, these corpses are exquisite! There are still two panels out on the third set, but here are the rest of the sets (by popular demand). Mousing over will show you who did what (or look at the contributor list at the end of each set), and if you click on a panel, you'll see the slice that player received, their finished panel, plus the last 15-pixel slice of their panel that got sent to the next player. At the end of each set, you'll see a link to the next set.
JADORE!

my team rocks! but i love the last one too! and the first one, i'm torn!
(but well transitioned)

There are neat little things, too... Like the "help" in the second and fifth panel of set four (Also the opening and closing bunnies in the that set).

jeez...you guys are good!! awesome, even.

Exquisite! Well Done! Thanks taz! I was thinking how neat it is that some of the imagery repeats, like the things you mentioned.

Wow, hey're all lovely! Although I feel a little weird about being the only person to submit a non-computer-made panel... Oh well, variety.

(& omniewise, those White Rabbit candies are great.)

Holy Majole! There's some great stuff here. Some of the transitions are a little bumpy, but there are just as many that are perfectly seamless. Excellent corpse presentation too, Taz. I really like how you set it up so you can see the slice each person got right next to their panel followed with the slice sent to the next corpser - it really showcases the talent it takes to pull one of these off.

I love how these corpses each have a distinctive feel. Set one has an almost elegant beauty to it (especially those first two panels that work so well together and PsychoKitty's panel). Set two starts out bright and quickly gets dark and a little haunting (amberglow's is outright eerie). And set four is bright and dominated by mostly cartoony illustration.

i see team two as evolutionary, from fish to manimal
i love how my little lulu got motifed in the stome sculpture in the next panel
some of the transitions are so well done

I'm still working on the transitions. I think I liked doing the lead out panel best since I didn't have to deal with transitions...

I was reading iconomy's explanations of the EC, and she mentioned that it's ok to modify the slice you're sent to help with the transition. Is that true?
posted by omiewise 15 July | 09:03
cosmos: i really love how well yours goes with iconomy's the way taz' goes with unapologetic
it gives a two panel bookend looks to the frames inside which can stand alone well
i am so very impressed with all of you
*weeps*

ITheCosmos-I love your non-computer one.
posted by omiewise 15 July | 09:06
Wow. All of them are so fantastic in their own way. These corpses are unbelievably addicting! Thanks for orchestrating all this for our entertainment, taz!

Cosmos - I could tell that you were giving me a watercolor. It looks beautiful there! Did you actually paint that after you recieved your slice?

The 4th one is cool. I love how the background color that omiewise started with got picked up and continued throughout the entire thing, it gives it such continuity. I got such a kick out of doing that one, because I actually recognized what was in the slice given to me (the Donkey Kong barrel), which will probably never happen again.

omiewise, yes! Definitely play with it and alter it - it helps with the transition. Like I said, though, don't change the leftmost pixels, because if you do, you're leaving the person before you with a transition that they have no control over - you're actually changing their panel. But changing the right side of the slice...go for it.

*sticks tongue out at ethylene*

papercake: just talking of the conceptual transition between taz and slack in your panel: rocks

I'd love to know where everyone got the pieces for their images.

For instance, PsychoKitty, where'd you find that fairy illustration?

thanks, eth!

taz-love the clickable reveal. A very nice design for this type of thing.
posted by omiewise 15 July | 09:11
iconogirl: a point i had as well.
i consciously made my slice for the next player an easy transition. and each tends to work it by serendipity or more to pick a theme of color or idea but if we even got more particular on that-- craziness

Great stuff!!

Wow, hey're all lovely! Although I feel a little weird about being the only person to submit a non-computer-made panel... Oh well, variety.

Well, my panel coming up for the next set is sketched in pencil and charcoal then photoshopped a little... but now I wonder if that's wise, or if it will just stand out too much from the overall style of the set. I could do something, I suppose, "sampling" bits of found scanned or photo'ed objects and sculpture instead, but I can't seem to get creative with the collage thing the way everyone else does so incredibly well.
posted by shane 15 July | 09:14
Oh, but, ITheCosmos, your piece rocks! I just mean, my piece for the next set would really stand out, being an actual pencil "drawing" in black-n-white (or shades of grey, really.)
posted by shane 15 July | 09:17
papercake: i copped tazzes theme from the first by using an image from the same museum collection she gused in emcee one of the frank lloyd wright pattern in gold.
the background is a chunk of art deco tile
the flowery pink bits are from someone's flickr open use for art cc (who i should find so everyone can see the guys amazing pics of fungus and flora)
the ball of cute is a dwarf hamster named lulu
worked on in twenty minute bursts on a long day of multitasking and metachatting (forsook style for speed)
posted by ethylene 15 July | 09:19
I suck. I planned my piece in the first emcee around a song, which I linked to (incorrectly) right there in the panel. I typed the url once, and it was wrong. I typed it again and sent the panel to taz again, and again I typed it wrong! And to add insult to injury, the url redirects anyway, whether you type in in wrong or not. Sigh. So here are the lyrics of the song that I based my piece on. When I got ITheCosmos's slice, I was inspired by the jungle colors to do a bird piece, which in turn led me to find this little ditty, called Don't Touch My Birdie.
posted by iconomy 15 July | 09:23
hey, if anyone else is interested
maybe we can have a part on the emcee where people can write narratives or essay bits on how they interpret each emcee
which would be great if we didn't see them until they were all present together at once as well so they don't affect each other.

I do already sort of have a page like that set up, from the first emcee, but only a few people did notes. Also, it might get to be kind of a big production to do the same for four or more sets (though I do think it's purty). But maybe including notes (from whomever wants to add some info) underneath the images in the little pop-up windows might be a good idea?

me3dia, I can't get over how flawlessly you finished off the doughboy.
posted by iconomy 15 July | 13:19
What if you gave the last person in the rotation the first 15 pixels of the first person as well?

Then you could hook them all together in a never-ending loop.

It'd be harder, but I'd volunteer to try it.

me3dia, I can't get over how flawlessly you finished off the doughboy.

Wait, are you seeing the doughboy complete? 'Cause I'm seeing it with the strip missing. Hopefully you're right once it's fixed.

I love that idea! How cool it would be to blend a panel from both sides instead of one...

me3dia, no, I don't see it complete, but I saw the slice and put them together in my head ;) I'm not even talking about how the arm and the slice and the hand line up, I'm just talking about the drawing technique and the colors used to finish the hand.
posted by iconomy 15 July | 14:28
me3dia - nicely done. I hope the slice can be re added because that transition looks seamless based on putting it together mentally. I was wondering if it was going to be obvious that there was a doughboy in there. I kept edging it over to the right until I got what would be a good slice.

Damn, I love these corpses. I hope we keep it up.

me3dia - ever since I saw Photoshop Tennis at the Coudal site I wanted to play, but my photoshop skills are pretty limited (actually, I'm a Corel man). I think the Corpse tennis is more my speed and to my liking. If you're ever up for a few rounds, please sign me up.

I'm still new to the world of computer age corpses. 25 years ago my friends and I did the pen and paper kind which we thought we invented until I saw some of the original corpses at the Art Institute. My few corpses at AnExquisiteCorpse were my learning curve until the MeCha ones started. These things are fun as hell and they're forcing me to finally learn how to use more of the features in my graphics system.

That piece is called Dancer & Demons, drawn by Marlan McWilliams. His line art is just amazing, and his paintings are vivid and bright and somewhat disturbing. I like him bunches. Some of his portfolio is here: http://www.mackmar.com/home.html

Note, I did break a comic author/publisher code, and used it without permission, so I've just sent him a note to let him know that I did, and to tell him that if he wanted to me to take it down and replace it with something else, I would.

The line art in the final panel of the 3rd set is from an editorial cartoon published in the Heart papers regarding Woodrow Wilson's plan for the League of Nations.
