I HATE JAPANESE BEETLES. [More:]They are eating all of my hibiscus blooms and cannas and crepe myrtles and they are on my Crimson King norway maple and on my Japanese maples and on some of my ornamental grasses. They are on my raspberries, blackberries and grapes. They are eating my ferns, they are eating my dahlias. My variegated porcelain vines, my buddleias, my the damn things are even eating on my bamboo now. I spray and spray and spray and see none left and the next day they are EVERYWHERE again. I want a nuke. Yes, a nuke. I am going to nuke my entire yard, flowers and all and then I am going to bury the ashes under thousands of tons of dirt and then I am going to nuke the top of the dirt pile.
Yeah, they pretty much suck.

Have you tried the yellow traps?

Failing that, have you tried raising chickens?

OMG they are taking our cannas, rhubarb, apple tree, and green beans. Try neem oil, but if they are already there sadly the only thing that seems to work is ugly pesticides. :(

I guess they gotta eat, but damn . . .

They showed up here a few years ago. The first year I discovered them, I hand-picked them. The second year I had to spray a few times and I put some milky spore down in the fall. The next year I had to spray within a week of seeing the first one and that continued until they vanished for the year.

My neighbor became so frustrated last year that he cut down ALL of his apple trees because of them. I am putting out more milky spore this fall in any area that they were feeding this year. I know it will not help about more coming into the area, but perhaps it will help about grubs that are here already.

As far as the traps, they seem to actually attract more.
