Good morning. Coffee?
Working on 24 oz of it myself at the moment.

Good Morning, Heartache.

(Tea usually, sometimes coffee).

Yes, please. Strong, with sugar and just a little cream. Thanks.

Two cups at home with a splash of milk, then pound diet coke at the office till about two; switch to water.

I used to drink IMMENSE amounts of caffeine until I went to a vegetarian/vegan gathering and pounded down huge amounts of good food for a weekend. Now, as long as I eat well, I have to stop at maybe a cup of coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon, otherwise I feel queasy. Evidently much of my coffee craving was caused by vitamin or nutrient deficiency.

And when I say IMMENSE amounts of caffeine, I mean IMMENSE. I've managed several coffee shops and worked in a roastery. I used to drink caffeine all day long, probably in the range of a couple pots of joe, a couple sodas, and at least one cappuccino per-day.

Not a coffee drinker. I get my caffeine from pop. : )

espresso. double. I'm not talking until I get my shot.

Coffee? Had a gallon of it this morning. It's late afternoon here, and I'm drinking wine, left continent boy.

Morning! Actually I'm working at home today, so I'm listening to the drip machine bubble away in the kitchen. The beans are ground by hand with a bright red wooden grinder with a little drawer in the bottom. We also have a Brown Betty and some overpriced Typhoo from the international grocery; but I thought today was a coffee morning.

dammit Taz, you're the only one who can make the concept of wine sound really really tempting to me. You did that in another thread yesterday too. Can I come over and hang out?
posted by dabitch 11 July | 10:39
A pint of weak tea, please. Not too hot.

(On my forty-fifth birthday, the caffeine fairy appeared and took away my tolerance for caffeine. *Sigh*)

large light, no sugar--thanks! (oh, and get me a bagel with butter too?)

Morning, sunshine! *ssstrrrreeeeeetttcccchhh* Hoo boy, it's my Saturday, so take your time, but an extra spicy chai, easy sugar from Phil's would be grand.

*snuggles back under comforters*

You guys are gonna get me hooked again with all this talk of espresso and French roast. You may as well be talking about single-malt and vintage port at an AA meeting...

Ready the transporter, dabitch; we eagerly await your arrival!

Sugar, no milk.

I hate the phrase, "regular coffee," which, at least at delis in my part of Queens, means milk and sugar. But elsewhere, it's a size, or a reference to house blend rather than coffee-of-the-day, or one of many other meanings for "regular." It's a needlessly confusing word that should be removed from the deli dictionary.

I used to drink my coffee black, but I started putting sugar into it a few months ago to buffer the caffeine. I find I drink fewer cups this way (I think I have a lower threshold for sugar than for caffeine). Only one cup today (I slept like a babe last night).

1 cup of coffee, Friday on the way home from work. Years of training to get it down from 4/day.

I can't have coffee. *sniff* The Specklet gets heart palpitations if she consumes any caffiene. Skeery.

But I'd love some peppermint tea with honey... Ooh ooh and a cheddar dill scone.

you know what? make mine iced--it's too hot here.

Plenty of coffee - early and often. Two cups in the morning at home, one on the ride to the office, and a few more throughout the morning. Occasionally a mid afternoon cup or two and usually a post dinner cup or two. Other than my other vices, coffee is my only vice.

I get my caffeine from pop.

"Pop" instead of "soda"? Another Midwesterner? My out of town friends love making fun of me for calling it "pop". They also ask me to say "sausage" or call somebody a "complete jag".

We say pop instead of soda in Buffalo, too.

RE: The "regular" coffee confusion

And in England I was asked if I wanted "white coffee".

It was like I was in another country or something.
posted by gramschmidt 11 July | 12:31
i heard "white coffee" and "milky coffee" over there.

I had heart palpitations from coffee.

When I was in my mid-20's I was drinking eight or nine cups-worth, smoking two packs, and drinking about ten beers/vodka drinks a day. Then I cut my foot and was put on codeine 24/7. My heart kept me up at night.

Of course, I lay the blame solely at the coffee's feet.

Wow...hugh janus...your mid-20s story sounds like me 3 years ago...

If i drink coffee it is a single cup in the morning...but nowadays, i prefer greentea...

The coffee does help with my ADD, but i was drinking WAY too much...

Coffee helps me do the dishes and water the plants. It's so helpful around the house!

Sorry. I know that wasn't very funny. But I am helpless to stop posting this.

Coffee seems to help my mother with asthma.

Coffee is a bronchodilator (like ephedrine, which also has a stimulant-effect.) Also a mild antidepressent, stimulating dopamine production. It also makes sperm swim faster. It is a slight antioxident, though best when double-filtered, and still not as good as tea. And it is said to improve muscle-tone.

I make 2/3 of a pot every morning and drink somewhere between half and all of it. Black, please.

By the way, anyone ever tried to order "black" (i.e., straight out of the pot with nothing in it) coffee in Boston? It's impossible. I think it took me six months to finally get a cup of coffee with no additives, and I've forgotten the magic phrase you must utter.
posted by mudpuppie 11 July | 18:53
thank you, I take it black... like my men.
