More Reminders. One: Don't forget the Metachat Mix-up. The deadline is Monday 7pm UTC. More info here.

Two: On looking through the logs for this site I've noticed that about 5-10% of users are using out of date browsers - this could be a security risk for yourselves so I'd encourage those of you who can to upgrade. Internet Explorer users should be on version 6 (except on Mac), Firefox on version 1.0.4.
Oh my god, I'm on FFX 1.0.3 Help!!! Actually, I didn't know there was an update. Thanks for reminding me to check.

actually, whenever a firefox update is available, a button with an up-arrow appears on the menu/toolbar. it's red for critical updates, green for minor, and blue when one of your extensions has an update available. all you have to do is click it and the update is fetched and installed. i think this is neat as hell.

Meh. Are they going to fix the popup blocker? I'm thinking I might go back to 1.0.1, 'cause the popup blocker doesn't work all the time in 1.0.4.

Oh, and if you're using IE for everyday browsing, I strongly endorse switching to firefox, despite my previous message. I've only had 6 or so popups in a month of browsing. I'm just annoyed 'cause I'm used to zero with IE.

I resisted switching for a long time. I think I resisted because the last actual 'netscape' product I remember using was the netscape browser verions 4 or 5, and they were soooo bad, while IE 4 and 5 were so fast and stable by comparison.

I can't live without firefox now, and I just convinced someone to switch when I re-installed their XP machine the other day. They're stoked about it.

I mean, you can keep IE around (and updated, hopefully) for all those crufty corporate/banking/billing sites that require it, but FireFox is your friend. It might seem a little slower at first, but that's because IE cheats and is not actually standards-compliant. Something about the way it handles HTTP requests and leaving them open and how it handles the rendering of web pages.

loquacious, it does cost a few bucks but I highly recomend admuncher for any browser.

loq - have you tried adblocker with filtersetg? that might help. you may want to check this out too. in any case there have been some critical security updates since 1.0.1 so i wouldn't recommend downgrading.

Um....suddenly, I feel so exposed. You can't see what color my underwear is, too, can you?

Oh dear.

Why yes I can. Peach isn't your colour.

Dodgy's lying, Frisbee girl; peach looks wonderful on you.

Sounds like you need to update to the latest Firefox release, and then get the extension that blocks remote user-underwear monitoring.

I *think* it's called PantsBlocker.

HTH.

quonsar that is neat as hell. I actually knew about the button, but I thought it just checked for updates, and I didn't know about the color change.

I'm not wearing any underwear.

There's also the Flashblock extension as lotsa ad's are now run by flash. Kind of a pain but just click the little arrow thingie and it'll play whatever whenever you want it.
posted by deborah 09 July | 22:08
that would be because of Your Highly Burdensome Cockstand

I have taken appropriate measures and refashioned my trusty foil hat into anti-spyware underpants.

Actually, since it's a full install download instead of a diff, it's merely neat as heck.

i'm uploading my mix now--it's dance-y, and has some real disco, and 2 songs from other people's mixes. : >

Oh wow, I had never noticed that thing. Superb!

Amberglow obviously has the "posting in the wrong thread" extension enabled.

Until Forefox gets so hopelessly corrupted that it tries to install version 0.9 instead and, surprise surprise, can't find the files and has now wiped out the isntallation with no hope of re-installing.

Why yes, I have been putting off a re-install for too long, thanks for asking.

But yeah, it is very very cool when it works properly.
