Bullets Over Las Vegas Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly beat 600 players to win the Texas Hold 'Em event at the World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas. She won US$158,625 at the two-day event, which features some of the top female professionals in the world.
Good for her! I love Jennifer Tilly. She has a sense of humor about herself that is sorely lacking in a lot of actors.

Not to pick nits, but she won a Texas Hold 'Em event, specifically the $1000 buy-in Ladies World Poker Championship -- No-Limit Hold'em. The linked article gets this wrong too.

None the less, this is pretty awsome.

thanks for the correction, Capn -- am I the only one here who considers Bound to be the pinnacle in the Wachhowskis' otherwise unimpressive filmmaking career?

Love her, Bound is the best of their movies, good for her and for us since we get to hear about her again.

Doesn't Ben Affleck play in poker tournaments? I think I've seen him play Hold'em on tv.

Yes. Plus she's great as the voice of the crippled cop's wife on Family Guy. Also, I would gladly be her love slave.

Bound, Tilly, Yes.

Yay to Tilly. Bound was great fun and she's great in Bride of Chucky too. And more curvy women in Hollywood please, I'm sick of the toothpicks.

She's yummy AND a good poker player?

You need to peruse this (SFW) modeling site. Curvy beauties galore. This doll in partricular makes me feel all funny...

yeah, Tilly kicks ass -- she plays poker like the world's cumming to an end, she's funny and has a sense of humor about the business, plus she's nearing 50 (it's always hard to believe that official Hollywood bios don't shave off a couple years here and there) and she looks incredibly attractive. more power to her.

Hollywood of course, where only anorexic/cokehead 19-year-olds who wear a size 0 get the good leads, shamefully ignores her

I agree that Bound is their best film. But I also think the crapitude that was the second two Matrix films has unfairly diminished the reputation of the first. It was a fantastic action film, brilliantly realized.

Bound was, I think, the second DVD I bought. I'm not sure how many times I've seen it. Quite a few. And I've watched it with the commentary track at least twice. Tilly is hilarious on the commentary track, almost giddy and mostly full of trivial gossip from the set. But fun.

If you're a fan of the film and not watched with the commentary track, you ought to. The movie stands on its own, but listening to the brothers talk about the movie only underscores that they really are brilliant filmmakers and have a distinctive vision. I don't know what happened with the Matrix sequals. I'm inclined to think it was too much money and maybe too much pressure.

By the way, from the commentary track you learn that they approached Joel Silver with their Matrix screeplay. His response was that, um, they hadn't made a single film yet and even though Matrix looked like a winner, he wasn't going to go out on a limb with untried filmmakers. Would they make another movie first? Thus, Bound.
