Today's Japan Times Front Page Headline Ground Self Defense Force vehicle windshield damaged in Iraq blast
Sooo...the current theme here is irony?

In the current issue of The Weekley Beat
Cracks Close City Building and Town Police Launch New Bicycle Unit

Or maybe the thread's focus is concentrated on mawkish grammar? The Poughkeepsie Journal's story concerning Speilberg's latest film is certainly cringeworthy.

If, however, the discussion is to be centered on our woefully-equipped forces...well, duh.

Sorry, the focus, if any, was my amusement that a cracked windshield made the front page of the paper. Somewhere inside, fine, but it just doesn't strike me as exactly front page material.

I think it's funnier that Japan's Self-Defense Force is in Iraq at all. Shouldn't they be in Japan, y'know, defending it?

Perhaps the reason that this is big news for the Japanese forces is that they have the Australian forces protecting them, so are usually shielded from harm.
