Gay Unions are False. Pope says so.
I'm glad we cleared that up.
posted by omiewise 07 June | 14:36

That was easy. Glad to be of assistance.

Whoops. Metachat knocked out my php code for making $gayunion = true.

That's a huge shocker. I'm really surprised. Really. In other news, my Catholic friend (male) made out with some guys at a party a few weeks ago and got strep from one of them. I'd like to think it was divine retribution.

Geez.

On the same gay-marriage topic, here's a short video I made (self link, but it's on ifilm) last March, documenting the marriages in Multnomah County, back when they were legal for a while. As false as some might say these unions are, they're damn beautiful to see.

the gays have a Union, now? The dues are high and the contracts are a bitch, but I bet the t-shirts look amazing.

how many people here belong to a (labour) union? (i do)

Person dedicated to belief system rooted in monastic practices lays down the rules for lay followers of belief system rooted in monastic practices.

Non-practioners of belief system rooted in monastic practices vent in general about people dedicated to belief system(s) rooted in monastic practices.

Despots hiding behind half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices shrug, and continue to exploit others less successful/merciless than themselves.

People dedicated to laying down the rules for lay followers of belief system rooted in monastic practices publicly criticise despots hiding behind half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices.

Despots shrug again, complain about personal attacks upon them for hiding behind half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices. They then resume in exploiting others less successful/merciless than themselves.

Vocal practioners of half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices appear on television, praising despots hiding behind half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices. Vocal practioners of half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices then resume in personal attacks upon others they consider critical of practioners of half-interperted impressions of belief system rooted in monastic practices...

The Pope doesn't exist. He died, remember?

I used to. And I tried to create one at one of my previous employers. It was not appreciated.

His church will never ever be forced to perform them, so it's kinda a meaningless statement (except politically--what are the EU's plans for same-sex marriage?)
posted by amberglow 07 June | 15:34
pity. ours is really good. we buy stuff for orphans and pay for people with cancer to not die so quickly. unfortunately no-one wants to head it, so on friday we have a vote where everyone is a candidate. which should be interesting - hope i won't be elected, although i suppose i'm not supposed to say such things. we have a good relationship with the management too.

curiously, even the communists here are catholic. when the president of the PC was ill with cancer they had masses to pray for her. which struck me as kind of odd.

amberglow: Spain's government has no problem with same-sex unions.

While the Pope's statement could be seen as a heads-up for Roman Catholics in general of how the new Papacy will stay within standard, it's more likely a message to the Greek and Russian Orthodoxies that Rome has no wish of hiding in the wake of Jean Paul II. There's a lot of mixed feelings between the three factions, mostly dealing with history.

JPII attempted to ease relations, though how much further the Vatican will follow through is anyone's guess. It's likely, though, the Synods won't be disturbed by it, as they're very conservative in their own rights.

(...won't be disturbed by Benedict XVI's proclimation, that is.)

the only exposure i've had of unions is from a worldwide shipping company. And it basically kept incompetent people from being fired and set the lowest standard possible for the amount of work one had to do.

Smart, the individual countries are one thing--but is there anything EU-wide being planned?

/from a Union family--ma, pa, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Ate Union thanksgiving turkey and much much more when i was little and my mother was on strike for a (kinda long) while.

posted by mudpuppie 07 June | 17:58
It's my policy to roll my eyes at any 78 year old virgin who refers to homosexuality as "self-indulgent."

Puh-leaz. This guy should indulge himself once in a while - might make him lighten up.

(Then again, Popes aren't known for being "light" or "up" so perhaps this chronic lack of release works in his favor.)

I initially misread "NAFTA" as "NAMBLA" - which I have to say, made more sense.
