I was at the convenience store yesterday and the clerk told me that his nephew found an old floppy disk of his and said "Oh, you 3D printed the "Save" icon!"
I am getting over a chest infection, and will be going back to my yoga class tonight. This is the week when things start to get busy for me - office party on Wednesday, car in for a repair on Thursday, another party on Saturday evening. Anyone would think I have an actual social life...
I have no immediate plans for the next little while. I have no idea what I want to do with my life.
I have been trying to get Ginger to come in and live with the rest of us. He did for 3 days but then he went back out. He is getting older and I would love for him to be indoors. He has worked very hard to be a domesticated dude and he gets scratching all the time. Coming indoors still seems to be a step too far.
I keep forgetting it's the Christmas season.
I do have a new worry about aging. Recently I saw something and I had a revelation. If I am ever at an age where someone says of me 'he's x years YOUNG' I am going to take an axe handle and beat that person into a bag of goo and then I will be sent to prison. Prison isn't good for anyone but it is particularly bad for old people. This worries me.
Still trying to get my footing here in Florida, post-retirement. Eat healthier, go for walks, write more, shower. Feel like I said the same thing this time last year. I may be a lost cause.
Wondering if I should bother with holiday decorations this year. Meant to get a small white tree with lights for our latest apartment; couldn't find just what I wanted on Amazon. Hanukah's already how many days in? Latkes are too much of a patchke (mmm, mom made great latkes). Family's far away (or dead, on my side; grim, I know, but it is what it is). I get depressed this time of year. Me and Charlie Brown (fuckin' Apple, man, won't let me watch the Christmas special, or Halloween or Thanksgiving; you suck, Apple). Sometimes it's best just to go back to bed.
Hugs to everyone this holiday season. And maybe some egg nog.
It's not surprising you feel adrift, arse_hat, given what you've been through this last year. You've worked so hard with your outdoor cats, and Ginger trusts you as much as he will allow himself. I hope he comes indoors.
I've not done as much Christmas decorating as past years. Always my tree, covered with ornaments that are full of memories of people and places. And my door wreath that I bought when we moved here in 1996. At our old house, I bought a Christmas wreath one year and it was stolen within half an hour, so we never bothered again. When we moved here, I bought a cheap one, and my husband was sure it'd be gone within a day too. But 27 years later, it's still going strong.
I've been ill with a bug and couldn't face putting up outdoor lights. Instead I bought a little projector thing that cost me less than £3, like a sort of rotating faceted ball with coloured lights. It's USB powered, so I have it in the recess outside my bedroom, protected from the elements by the balcony of the upstairs flat, with the cable going through the window, the cable being flat enough that I can lock the window. It projects a light show onto the walls and ceiling of the recess, and looks pretty cool. I thought for £3, if it gets stolen, so be it, but so far, so good.
I have a busy week ahead - working until Wednesday, then on Wednesday night the Charles Court Opera Christmas Show at the Jermyn Street Theatre, and on Friday the Carols by Candlelight concert that I love, the orchestra dressed in 18th century costume, a beautiful choir and soloists. My friend who I always go with is coming down from Suffolk and she's staying overnight. It's one of my favourite nights of the year. Truly the start of Christmas for me.
Any of you heard of cat Churu tubes? Little tubes of goopy cat treat? I've seen videos of cats loving them and decided to try it with Ginger. Pulled it out and he was 'Nope. Something new.' and started to walk away. I tore off the corner and waved it in his direction and he stopped, sniffed, and came back. As soon as he got a taste he wanted more. I don't know what makes it so appealing but cats immediately become addicts.
Yes, we have those here, but they have the most disgusting names. One brand is called Lick-e-Lix, and the other is called Creamy Dreamies. Rudi virtually inhales them. The only time I've seen him refuse one was a year or so ago when he was at the vet with an injury and was too stressed to eat it. Whenever I have to give him his flea/worm treatment drops on the back of his neck, I just have to squeeze one of these little tubes into a saucer and he's so intent on snarfing it down that he barely notices me squirting the medication onto his fur.
