A new chapter Today I picked up a check for the sale of mom's house. →[More:]
We will be able to use those funds to pay for her memory care.

I have been working almost non-stop since January to find a good place that approaches some affordability, get her qualified and paperwork and doctors visits done, get rid of everything in her house, get it clean, get it listed and then all the paperwork for that and then the closing.

And, while I was away from home for almost a year, the mice moved in. So, I'm cleaning all the things and throwing away stuff and also melding some of the things I saved from her place with my place and weeding out stuff. I currently live in a hording-like situation because there are boxes of things everywhere. I have pathways. It's overwhelming.

Yesterday I finished doing her and my taxes... another thing I'd put on hold.

So, I'm making headway.

I did take a half day an pulled weeds in front of my place. Small pine trees had sprouted in my absence.

And there's a decent chance that by the end of the summer, I will have everything back in order.

So, I'm back to being more interactive with y'all.

In the meantime, has anyone else heard about the Independent (no label contract) UK musical artist Ren?

OMG, his creations are amazingly engaging, and his backstory is quite the rabbit hole.

Happy to hear things are getting done. The overwhelming sense of struggle with a hording type situation is something I can relate to. I hope you get to hit the end of summer target.

And yeah Ren. I first encountered him here. I heard about this Bittersweet Symphony cover and didn't expect much but it turned out to be an interpolation and wow it was so good! I see he is in Canada for medical treatment. I don't know what that involves but I keep hoping he might pop up somewhere I could go to see him perform.

I experienced it myself with the last years of my parents. When you're old and ailing you having kind and caring people around is everything.
Your mother is lucky to have you.

Are you taking care of yourself too?

I applaud you on your diligence and care of your mom. I am only peripherally dealing with something similar and it's overwhelming, the amount of paperwork, etc. My Other Half's elderly aunt has been in a nursing home situation for the last nine months and since he's the only family left, it's fallen on him and his ex wife to deal with. (he and his ex are like brother and sister; they split up a couple of decades ago. Since they married very young, they are both still very enmeshed with each other's families. She and I are very close and get along great). It was determined that the house be put up for sale, etc. It's such a tedious process, because Auntie distrusted everyone in the last years of her life, and made things difficult.

And last night, Auntie passed away. Bless her, she was 97 and tired of living. But now it's more paperwork and trying to find the funeral home where she pre-paid for her burial. In a different state. Fun times.

I know this has been a horribly difficult time for you, mightshould, and I am so glad that this chapter for you and your mom is now at an end. It must be such a relief for you to know that your mom is in good hands, and that you can now get on with your life.

I visited a friend yesterday whose husband died in December. He was a pack rat and had hundreds of LPs, CDs, books, that she's now in the process of getting rid of. The LPs have been much easier to dispose of than CDs, curiously. It looks as if most of the CDs and books will end up donated to the charity shops. Nobody wants the 45s, there's just no market for singles anymore. None of them are collectables, so they'll probably end up being recycled.

I don't have anyone who would be able to clear my place for me, so I need to start doing it now. I have sooo much stuff, and if it's been sitting at the back of a shelf for years, I'm unlikely ever to need it again. Little and often is the key.

Sorry about the meeces, and maybe Jeeves, Wooster and Ms Nibs will be able to help you out with that. Although, if they're anything like my idiot cat, they'll bring mice in - alive and well - and just let them go.

I know how much you love your garden, and I'm sure it'll soon be looking lovely again.
