26 March 2023

Send me good vibes and pictures of kitties [More:]I'll find out by the end of the week if I'm going to get to keep my job.
It's a nerve-wracking week ahead. Here's hoping that your employer is somehow not compounding their previous clusterfuckery.

Hugs, Senyar

We have been invited to a Teams meeting tomorrow at 12.30. I guess this is it.

Hope things work out. Terrible how they leave you hanging like that.

Thanks Pips. I've been there before, a couple of years ago, when at the last minute they realised they needed our expertise and, although they made our jobs redundant, they re-hired us immediately (but on much lower pay). But we have a whole new batch of people at senior management level, from the CEO down, and they have to make a show of power. I just hope they throw us another lifeline. I've been there nearly 24 years. I don't have a clue what I'd do if I lost this job.

Well, it's good news. There are going to be redundancies, but only in relation to operational managers. My job is safe, but I'll be moved over to a new management structure. There should be no change to my role, pay or benefits (for the time being, anyway, until the next reorganisation...)

This is the third time in the last five years we've had this threat of redundancy. The last time, the only option we had was 'fire and re-hire' (on much lower pay), and I don't think the senior management or HR really appreciate how very, very stressful it is to be living under the Sword of Damocles all the time. I am lucky in that I only have myself to think about, but colleagues have had to put off big decisions about moving house, taking on financial commitments, increasing their family, etc. because of the constant uncertainty.

Let's hope this sticks until I can finally retire.

I am sad for my manager though. He (and all other operational managers) are being laid off. He is a kind, fair man who is good at his job. He doesn't deserve this.

I am glad it is good news for you, Senyar. Will keep your less lucky colleagues in my thoughts.

I am happy to hear it turned out OK. I was going to post pictures of kitties but I just never found the energy.

So glad to hear-- that must be such a relief-- I am so happy for you--

Thanks guys, a relief indeed. arse_hat, are you okay?
posted by Senyar 28 March | 14:48
Senyar, I am OK. As in not terrible. You know how you can get an intestinal virus and feel violently ill for a few days and then it passes and you are left feeling just weak and wrung out like an old rag? I'm feeling like that but psychically not physically. Thanks for the concern.

Oh man, arse_hat, I so get that. Many days I can't even get myself to brush my teeth, comb my hair. Every time I start to get my footing a bit, something knocks me off my post. Hugs to you--

Yeah, these things can kick your butt, arse_hat. Maybe a vitamin supplement would help. I take a Berocca every day and really notice it if I miss a day.

Thanks Pips.

Eh, Senyar, it's just my brain working at stuff that does me no good in day to day life and letting me down when I need to do real life things. Oddly though in many ways I am healthier than I have been in a while. Walking, biking, and weight training are all things I seem to be driven to do a lot of.

And, I'm glad you still have your job but damn the ride you have had the last several years just sucks.

And, another and, Pips I hope you and Jon can have some fun together even if sometimes your brain tries to knock you off your perch.

Thanks, arse_hat. Right now we both have nasty colds. What can you do.

Another little bit of joy that I needed to see today. || A new chapter
