🐇 🎄 🎶 14 Something else a bit different. Jessica Mitchell covers Joni Mitchell's River with the Art of Time Ensemble. Always sad and wistful it is one of Joni's most popular works recorded by 426 to 540 different (depending on what you read) artists.[More:] This version really goes into the darkness of the song.

I could see this being set in a smokey crowded L.A. club at the centre of some crime in one of those hard boiled detective books.

I really like this arrangement. I agree, it's really atmospheric, with a film noir vibe.

I love the song, but I find Joni's high soprano voice in her early albums to be horribly shrill - I much prefer her albums from Court & Spark onwards, as her heavy smoking began to affect her upper register and she had to adapt to being a mezzo-soprano/contralto.

I have to agree I like her later voice more.
