Universal Income While some countries have a safety net, the US doesn't. The video is a nice summary done by a southern journalist. He has an engaging delivery and I thought it may be interesting for some folks.
I am in favor. I don't even understand why it would be worth arguing against. The goal of government should be to harness mechanisms in the economy that help people thrive.
I think there should be universal income, something that you could live on, but not get rich on. I think at the start it would mess with the economy, probably cause some inflation of consumer good prices. I think there should be a progressive tax such that as people make money over and above the basic income, they are taxed and that maybe by the time they hit some value (3X? 4X? maybe more?) of the universal income it's paid back in their taxes so they don't benefit from the program. The universal income, though, shouldn't be taxed at all.
