Do you taste metal? Chernobyl books.

I watched the first four episodes of Chernobyl just before the weekend. I have not seen the last yet as I read two books over the last couple of days.[More:] Midnight in Chernobyl and Chernobyl Prayer: A Chronicle of the Future aka Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of the Nuclear Disaster. Midnight is a look at the details of the reactor failure, and a look at how the Soviet leadership handled things. It's good if you want more detail.

Chernobyl Prayer is about how the disaster has affected people since 1986. It is in their own words. It is devastating. The story of Lyudmila and Vasily is terrible in the show but even more difficult to read in Lyudmila's own words. What came next for her is sad too.

If you want to know more about the aftermath then Chernobyl Prayer is worth reading but it is tough reading.
I can't bear to watch this, it's both too sad and it also scares me too much. I really thought in the 1980s we were all going to die, either of some disaster like this or at the hands of Reagan and Thatcher.
