Wondering... Do I win when a cashier automatically applies the senior discount without even asking?[More:] I think the threshold is 60 y.o. and I'm not there yet.

On one side, I can use all the discounts available but on the other, it's not legit and it means I'm looking worn...
Not to rub it in, you and I being the same age and all, but I was called 'Miss' by an assistant in Clintons Cards the other day...

Maybe they were just being nice, and that was an easy way for them to do it? :) I would take it!

It is definitely a bittersweet thing. Speaking as a 58 year old.

Speaking as a 71 year old, thinking that being young is, aside from discounts & such, always better than being old, is untrue. This is my personal experience and may sound like an alternative fact in the face of our culture's youth prejudices, but letting go of all sorts of meaningless struggles that once seemed so important is more than sufficient compensation for looking traditionally "hot."

Senyar, I'm in the South: I'm called miss all the time...*snerk*

Yeah. Being older means I just don't give a fuck about so much (or maybe that I've given up) It's liberating in an unconscious way.

I do love the discounts when appropriate.

I picked up work with a new person this past week (yay! Much needef income) and I asked new employer what she thought...(around my age) and she said that she was livid when it happened to her. Me, I just was concerned that I am looking 'old'.

On the flipside... I was asked the other day, whole walking with my three-year-old son, "is that your grandson?".

I am 38, though I have never coloured my grey hair and have had a stressful time recently.

It's the other end of the spectrum from when I used to get in the movies for the under-12 price when I was 14.
