Friday question NOT from the book of questions Do you have any phobias? If so, what might they be?
I seem to specialize in insect phobias. In particular, cockroaches and spiders freak me out.
I'm developing a fear of flying that I never had before. I'm usually OK for most of most flights, but heavy turbulence scares me as it never used to do.
Lastly, as I age, death seems more imminent, and hence more fearful . . . and also something I am a lot more resigned to facing than when I was younger. It is a strange simultaneous enhancement and diminishment of that fear.
I'm not sure it's a phobia, but I'll do almost anything in lieu of phone calls unless it's to talk with friends. Online chat with customer service is no problem. ..odd.
Not really phobias: I am squicked out by slimy frogs dating back to when I was the kid who was told to turn on the irrigation valve that was located in an in-ground box; I reached down and grabbed onto a frog instead (who was probably enjoying the nice damp cubbyhole.) I'll pick up snakes with no problem. Lizards get the side eye cause they tend to jump down on you just to be freaky.
Oh yeah. Avoiding phone calls has caused all kinds of problems - I even put off doc appointments because of having to call. WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT???? WHY IS THE PHONE SO BAD?
Ack, bluesapphires, I hate them! We call them sprickets and every year I saw a few and ALWAYS IN MY BEDROOM!! Yuck yuck yuck.
I have many, many fears. Flying is definitely way up there. I'd say in general I have a fear of mechanical failure which includes many things but planes and elevators are two of the biggies. Also terrified of heights.
I suppose the dentist. I've had lots of dental work in the past, including four impacted wisdom teeth out at once, so I don't know why I'm such a chicken now. I haven't really been to the dentist in ten years (I even have dental insurance), and I need to go (I have three cracked molars that need repair). Now I'm on a blood thinner, though, and they want me to wait awhile before going to the dentist (I have to go off the blood thinner apparently for the dental work). Listerine helps. (I'll go soon, I will. Jon's just as bad. Anyone know a good dentist? Or hypnotist?)

Yes, I had to call around and find a surgeon for my ovarian teratoma back in the day. Put that off for, oh, a year or so. Apparently the potential of nastiness around that was preferable to talking to a human person.
