Christmas with Bing & Frank. Saw this on tv last night. Cheesy, but good clean fun. Even though it was made for TV in 1957, when not a lot of people had color sets, they filmed it in color, brilliant and vibrant color actually. I totally want some of that punch Frankie's serving.
good, but not as classic as Bing & Bowie (ba-rum-pa-pum-pum)

Have you ever seen the entire special that the Bing&Bowie clip is part of? Downright bizarre ...you could see the last, desperate gasp of wholesome 50s television there, with a very modern David Bowie video stuck right in the middle. Pretty sure the whole thing is online somewhere, too lazy to look...

Merry Christmas to all! *hugs*

Here it is. I don't really find it bizarre, though.

Was watching an Andy Williams Christmas special from the seventies today. The past really is a foreign country.

Looks great! Watching tomorrow.

I don't find Bing & Bowie bizarre much either. Mainstream culture always looks like a slightly uncomfortable mashup, doesn't it? And 50s TV aesthetics live on today. I kind of wish this sort of totally awkward, mawkish, cultural-mashup TV special would come back, like some countercultural hipster would put together a completely sentimental and slightly embarrassing 20-teens version of the 70s/80s variety TV special. That sort of thing is a lovely way to have cultural continuity.
