23 March 2015

Up and at'em! What are you going to get done today?[More:]

I have a sudden burst of motivation, and have disabled Facebook and my other favourite online procrastination places. So today's for getting shit done. I will:

1. contact those people
2. apply for that project
3. finish that other project
4. do the washing up
5. write that page for my website
6. scan that thing
7. go home and File All The Things

and I'll come back here to check things off the list! Happy Monday to you all.
I have:

4. done the washing up
6. scanned that thing!

Happy Monday!

This is timely, as I felt like my motivation was gone last week, and has just returned yesterday.

I will:
1. put at least half of the bunny hay boxes in my car & taken them home
2. mail the package to my friend
3. Do work items 1-5 (in addition to other misc stuff)
at home -
4. clean bathroom and change out rugs

Already done -
printed postage for package
called vet for drop off times for tomorrow
printed pattern

Also, I will drink my coffee!

I got back from AOTB (dance convention) yesterday and only unpacked the bare minimum of stuff I needed for the evening so I need to finish unpacking that stuff. I've also got a bunch of videos to watch and I need to do my house chores. And sleep some more. And recharge my severely depleted introvert batteries.

I have also done 2. and applied for that project!

Another couple of small things to add, though:

8. book self and son in for haircuts
9. book self in for PAP smear (ugh ugh)

Go, altolinguistic!

I am on half time for work right now, because of a mix-up with our contract and it's the end of the quarter (boring story)

Anyway, so, when I'm not doing my 4 hours work...

1. Call bank and get online access thing sorted
2. Call cable company to change payment method
3. Buy a thank you gift for my cousin who did something lovely for me
4. Post office
5. Call summer camp place
6. Write a form thank you letter for the school grants committee to use for donations
7. Go to yoga

Lots of calls in there. Yuck. My most hated thing.

gaspode, if I have four hours of work to do, it tends to take me eight hours, so I admire your organizational skills!
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 08:52
right, done some of 1. and all of 8. and 9. (which involved dreaded phone calls; gaspode, I feel your pain) and now off home to do 7.

3. and 5. can be tomorrow morning's tasks after an early night. Son (21 months) keeps waking me at 5.30 which is taking its toll, though things are considerably better than they were during the infant sleep-deprived period.

Good luck everyone else with your lists!

I did a lot this weekend but today I will

1. Hang up my tights to dry
2. Get in a short run
3. Start the delayed project
4. Get a jump on my weekly reading
5. Pick up my dry cleaning
posted by bearwife 23 March | 10:07
Plan for today:

1. Get a horrible document off my work desk (done already!)
2. Mail a letter to my mother.
3. Do some sort of exercise after work.
4. Do laundry.
5. Set up my upgraded Roku box.
6. Decide what to eat this week and make a grocery shopping list for tomorrow.
7. Read (that's on the schedule for every day, actually).

1. Sit through a 'motivational meeting' at work without dozing off.
(I managed it. That's my biggest achievement today.)

2. Find a recipe for vegan avocado mayo.

3. Relax with Lucy in front of the TV. Monday's TV is good so it's usually a lazy night for me.

Update on 7: put many if the Things into the recycling and filed some of the Other Things. Also tidied kitchen and living room and made dinner before picking kiddo up. Score!

altolinguistic: yes, calls are of the devil.

OK!

1. Call bank and get online access thing sorted
2. Call cable company to change payment method
3. Buy a thank you gift for my cousin who did something lovely for me
4. Post office
5. Call summer camp place
6. Write a form thank you letter for the school grants committee to use for donations
7. Go to yoga

Thank you gift I will pick up on the way to get my daughter from school, thank you letter I'll do this evening and calling the summer camp place? Eh, I made two calls today -- do it tomorrow.

1. Get up
2. Fight like hell to be chipper and polite at work when if I hear one more person talking about their great husband or kids I'll scream
3. Fight like hell to be chipper and polite and enthusiastic at music rehearsal (I am the director)
4. Feel quite a bit better because the people at rehearsal, as well as the music, always cheer me up

Mondays save me these days.

Ooh can we do strikethrough here yes we can
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 14:40
Um, that didn't work. Gaspode, how...? I tried the strikethrough tag.
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 14:41
Yay Alto! Good on you for getting done the things!
I too have had a action-packed day. We got home late last night from a weekend away, so today I have already:
1. Done laundry
2. Finished pending project
3. Made doctor's appointment for both me and my dog
4. Went to post office
5. Went to dry cleaner
6. Went to supermarket
7. Went to gym
8. Visited with a friend and her daughter
9. Started work on two additional projects
10. Walked the dog
11. Made some half-assed attempts at cleaning.

Today I still have to:
1. Walk the dog again
2. Make dinner
3. Veg like a goddamn boss for a couple of hours before bed

I am currently vegging like a goddamn boss before bed. Nice phrase.

msali, the sudden burst of motivation is an attempt to summon more translation projects. They're thin on the ground at the moment.
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 15:29
let's try the del tag... YAY!
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 15:31
Don't I know it, Alto! We are short on work here as well. I don't know why exactly, we were on like gangbusters for the first few months, and March is normally a very busy month. We're not alone, though. We've spoken to colleagues with all varieties of language pairs, and most everyone is slack.
posted by msali 23 March | 15:40
how about strike? double YAY!
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 15:49
Glad to know it's not just me, msali. I have a destructive tendency to retreat into my shell and start believing I'm bad at the job. I'm also still building up work again after being off work for over a year after kiddo was born, and am finding it hard to get back on people's radar.
posted by altolinguistic 23 March | 15:51
It's funny the different forms our anxieties and fears take on. For me, my destructive tendency is to imagine that we have reached the tipping point in terms of what translation software is capable of producing, and that I am being squeezed out of my beloved profession. Of course that's not true, and there will always be work (but maybe not all high paying, and maybe not as much as we'd like). I've been doing this for long enough now to know that this is just a down cycle, and soon it will rain more work than I can even handle. I hope work picks up soon for you! I can imagine how hard it must be to make sure all the different PMs know you are back on the market. Good luck!

Everyone is getting things done -

I will:
1. put at least half of the bunny hay boxes in my car & take them home -- 1 box in car, another will be taken when I go down (hopefully)
2. mail the package to my friend -- yes, done!
3. Do work items 1-5 (in addition to other misc stuff) -- I did 1-4, and then half of 5. 5 was the most dreaded - I should really start that first tomorrow..
at home -
4. clean bathroom and change out rugs - not home yet, but there's still hope. even if all I want to do is play the long live the queen game..

I wound up going to lunch with my mom, but am still fairly on track for getting things done. I've got a second load (out of 3) of laundry in the washer (load #1 is drying currently), I've ran and emptied the dishwasher, and I cleaned the house (including completely emptying Anubis' box and washing it and refilling it with clean litter). I unpacked my dance stuff and just need to go through my makeup and travel kits and replenish them and wash my makeup brushes (and see what the damage looks like on my credit card, ugh.)

Made a tuna casserole.
Which, as it turns out, we're now going to have for dinner tomorrow night.
posted by Thorzdad 24 March | 14:31
Wow, that's a lot of stuff, y'all.

I managed to
1. finally send a box to a freind that I promised a week ago. (Glad she's understanding)

2. Apply for a grant that I'm sure I've got most things wrong.

3. Finally call a sleazeball that I have no option of not dealing with.

4. Get my son to actually talk to his teacher and get the work he's behind on done. That was a real mess.

Still to do:

1. Find out where my parents are staying when they come in two weeks (!)

2. Figure out their transportation. I've only got one car now.

3. Start dinner. I've really not been in the mood to do anything in the kitchen that's complex. 've got fish sticks and flautas and steak fries and I just want to stick it all in the oven and say feed yourselves, everyone.
