Whelk Sighting! [More:]
The Mark Trail comic is all action (Monday's strip has the ecologist/adventurer punching a gun-carrying poacher), except on Sundays, when it's all educational. This Sunday's Trail was all about whelks and not-quite-whelks (which I would not have been aware of if not for The Comics Curmudgeon), making me think of MeFi/MeCha's Own The Whelk. Coincidentally, I then saw the secret Real Name of The Whelk in "Coming This Month To The Nib", which is the bestest part of Medium because it features comics by awesome people like Gemma Correll, Zach Weinershith and Ruben 'Tom the Dancing Bug' Bolling. I had almost forgotten that Our Whelk made comics and has even gotten a couple into The New Freaking Yorker, because so much of his most notable visual work was just written by him and illustrated by the OMG Molly Crabapple. Still I await with baited* breath The Whelk on The Nib.

*I know it should be "bated breath", but when you're dealing with somebody who uses a sea creature for an alias, I HAD to go for the pun.
His name is his trademark, his trademark his name, and that's his name. Mark Trade. (From a parody of Mark Trail in Mad Magazine in the 50s)
