December Musical Giftstravaganza, 12/8 When I was little, we had a Christmas compilation on 8-track that was on continuous play. One day a few years ago around Christmastime, I was in the shower and one of the tracks popped into my head. [More:]
I decided I had to find it, but it was a instrumental classical track, last heard in the 1970s, on one of a jillion permutations of the Time-Life empire. How to proceed? I asked my mom, and she gave me the 8-track (!!), but I had no way to play it, and there were other songs on it that I couldn't identify from the title.

Hello, Internet and the world of Christmas music blogs! After some intense Googling, I finally saw the tracklist of a similar compilation on a Christmas music blog. I contacted the blogger, and he sent me the album, and I confirmed that the piece listed was the one that I remembered. Reunited with this lovely earworm at last! I hope you enjoy Glory to God in the Highest, composed by Giovanni Batista Pergolesi, orchestra unknown but possibly the London Pops Orchestra, due to their long association with the (it turns out) Columbia House- Home for Christmas empire. (Audio file may be a little rough due to vinyl-to-mp3 transition.)
The internet is indeed an amazing thing.
