Friday Question Would you rather be liked or respected? Why?

And I will say that all my life, when these two options have been in conflict, I've opted to be respected, not liked.

Being liked, too often, means going along with something that should instead be called out.

When you come right down to it, I'd rather be right with myself than liked OR respected.

I think I would rather be respected if I had to choose, but it would be a hard choice.
It's uncomfortable to not be liked and I'm pretty sensitive so that would be tough, but I think I'd rather do that than be a person that people say "oh she's nice but not that smart/reliable/whatever" about.

Respected. Being liked just isn't that important to me. True friendship comes with respect not just a capricious sort of like.

Seems to me being "liked" involves some aspect of "respect". I can't imagine liking someone I didn't respect, whereas it's very easy to imagine not liking someone while still respecting them.

Wha? Like is pretty much what you say when you don't respect someone, as in, "Well, I like the guy but I wouldn't work with him/invest my money/date him/be in the same bomb shelter/etc."

Respected all the way, if I could only choose one, but I think there needs to be at least some respect in the mix to like someone anyway. As bearwife alludes to, being liked without respect mostl likely involves too much compromise.
