IRL cross-post--come to my art show Saturday! Our 9-foot-tall aluminum skull has been invited to appear in a real-live art show! I'll be attending, as well, and I hope some others in the crew (mostly MetaFilterians) will be there. This project was born in an AskMe and has led to some amazing experiences--come help us milk it for more!
I've been in one (open) show before, but this is juried and legit and we were INVITED, which kind of blows me away. We pushed the skull around the neighborhood on Halloween, and it was a huge success, lots of folks taking pictures and talking and thanking us.

It was enormously difficult to answer the question "Who made this?" with "ME!" I had to humbly accept praise, instead of deflecting it or just letting folks wonder. I imagine there will be more of the same Saturday. It's a weird issue, I know, but it goes against my WASPy upbringing and feels majorly pretentious to allow myself to be regarded as an "artist."

Growth! Adventure! Yay!

That is lovely.

I won't call you an artist if it makes you uncomfortable.

but you obviously are

'twas a blast! We were a big hit--lots of folks coming by and taking pictures and talking. The gallery owners and show curator were hugely appreciative; we were stationed outside on the street, and they recognized that we pulled in lots of folks to the show, which was pretty much at full capacity all night.

No action from the Metafilter folks, which was a shame. About a half dozen of our crew was there, so I wasn't lonely or anything. And we met TONS of DC art people, gave out and received lots of business cards, all that.

Much, much fun, and quite inspirational for making more art!
