Yes indeed, bearwife. After the 2004 victory the news showed footage of people going to cemeteries to visit their fathers' graves and sobbing, "damnit, dad, they won, and you're not here to see it..."
I couldn't sit down for the 2004 playoffs against the Yankees. Literally, I stood next to my chair when I wasn't leaping up and down. I don't remember sitting for the Series either. And my dad, who died in 2008, was alive then, so my brother and dad and I were all calling each other. Later I gave my dad a drinking glass that played the final minutes of the announcers calling the final win v. the Yankees and v. the Cards. He loved it.
I cried then and I still tear up when I think of 2004. So glad my dad saw that.
This was a big deal especially because they won AT HOME, at Fenway which is actually the first series win at Fenway since 1918. So people in MA are losing-their-minds happy and it was sort of a good lively series at the same time.
The 2013 baseball season has easily surpassed any other in my lifetime for sheer love of the game. What a bunch of great players: unsung, written-off, and who came out and played like fierce bulldogs through the entire season.
Boston is silly and stupid for so many reasons, but as far as baseball goes, it's the best.
