But I attended a film noir screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin a year or so ago, with Richard Hell serving as the commentator on the films. It was remarkable how incoherent he was. He had nothing interesting to say. At the risk of sounding like an uptight grandpa, I found myself wondering whether he was "on something." It seemed like an example of someone being listened to because of who he is, rather than because he had something to say.
