Super late Friday night question Where would you go in a time travel machine? Would you stay?
I would go to Saturday morning.

Woot! I'm already there. While you slow pokes are stuck in Friday night.

Hmmmmm..... hard question! Maybe I'd go back to when my grandparents were dating and spy on them strolling down the Ocean City, NJ boardwalk. Not to stay, just to visit!

I stuck my head out of my time machine in Baltimore, Maryland around 2:30 in the afternoon on May 30, 1972, and decided to stay.

I wouldn't go anywhere at all! Life right now is awesome, and I wouldn't want to go back, and I wouldn't want to go forward cause I don't want to skip any of the good parts!

Regarding TPS's answer: just the idea of my daughter or her grandchildren spying on me and her mother when we were dating seems strange.

I'd like to meet some historical figures. F.i. Proust must have been a charming man. Or Goethe. I'd like to walk trough ancient Rome during the highpoint.

But I don't like to dwell on couterfactuals. And this time travel won't happen. Sniff.

Anywhere in the future, at least 20 years.

... and yeah, I came back.

I'd like to go back about 25 years armed with a list of stupid things I've done and tell the 'then-me' not to do them. Of course, I'd probably just do other equally stupid things and end up in the same place. Maybe I'd need to stay and guide myself along so I could live vicariously through myself as I watch me enjoy the life I denied myself by making stupid decisions.

Yes, I like spoilers, so I'll check out various times in the future (25, 50, 100 years) as long as I'm positive I can get back...

Coincidentally, "SuperFrat", a webcomic I follow only because its sideblog is funnier than the comic, has just such a sideblog entry today: "10 Things I Expect Dicks to Do With Time Travel".

Speaking of time travel and webcomics, I do recommend "Times Like This", partly because the protagonist/time machine inventor is a physics genius WOMAN (although also being characterized as 'uninhibited', she did go back in time to have sex with various historic figures before she settled down and married a man from the present). She shares her time travel secret - and some adventures - with a small circle of friends, including two she rescued from certain death in the past (one of whom is now named Joan Arquette - can ya guess?) and a robot assistant from the future... hey, the comic's been going on for 6 years now. And oh yeah, the authorities now know about her time machine but let her keep it in exchange for sharing her technology and there's a special agent with the FBI (lampshading "The X-Files") who monitors her mostly-recreational time traveling with concealment methods that remind me of Get Smart's Agent 13, another thing I like about the comic. (Kinda creepy, but funny.) Yes, the character design is very stiff with annoyingly big, round eyes, but if you're looking for ideas of what to do while time traveling, this is a good source...
