This is a beauty thread. Have you discovered any new toiletries, cosmetics or fragrances? Tell us about them![More:]

I just finished the last of a big bottle of Kiehl's Creme de Corps, but couldn't justify spending £44 on a new one. I mean, it's good and everything, but I really can't justify that price.

So I did a little online research, and decided to buy this lotion from Aveeno. It's absolutely wonderful, even (dare I say it), better than the Kiehl's and one-tenth of the price.

One of the reasons I couldn't justify the price of the Kiehl's is because I recently treated myself to a new fragrance - Molecule 01. It really is an amazing fragrance, and every time I've worn it, total strangers have stopped me to ask what it is.

But because it consists of only a single molecule, I'm going to buy that molecule (which is available from perfume suppliers) and a suspension base and make my own in future.
BETTER THAN KIEHL'S? How dare. Just kidding, I love Creme de Corps, but it's a little too pricy to justify (especially when I can't be bothered with lotion for at least half the year). I might have to try the Aveeno stuff, if it smells OK.

I'm between fragrances at the moment- my bottle of Hesperides went rank and I've been dragging my feet on replacing it. I would love to do this but it's a thin scent; is there anyway to make a scent like that last longer? Ooo, I do see they have an oil, that might be worth a try....

I've been loving my Cover Girl Lipslicks Smoochie in 2 CUTE. Great natural looking color, great wear, not too dry or gloppy.

All this beauty talk may send me to the drugstore this evening. I'm a little low on shampoo- I only have 3 varieties to choose from in the shower! And two don't count, because one is Marc's and one is a deep clarifying I only use once a week or so (and then I always have to use something else because it smells horrendous). I used up my bottle of Suave Ocean Breeze and I miss it. I love Suave shampoo.

This will sound weird, but bear with me. I'm a total Lush girl. Recently they sent me a sample of their underarm deodorant, Aromaco, which is making my pits smell absolutely delightful. So -- I recommend! Also awesome are their Gorilla perfumes, their Celestial moisturizer, and their Henna shampoo bar.

Finally, if you like perfumed soap, I can't recommend enough Napa soap company -- their flower soaps make me love the shower -- and the Yorkshire soap company, which makes the very best rose soap I've ever used and a lot of other lovely soaps and stuff for the bath.

Lately I've been using a brown sugar + vanilla bean + coconut oil mixture as a body and facewash. It smells divine and the kids won't touch it. Double win.

I can't use lotions anymore because the alcohol dries out my skin. If I'm not putting on sunscreen, I'll use Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Sometimes I'll put it on before using sunscreen.

Now that lotion from Aveeno sounds good. I may take a look at that. I hate having to wait for the mineral oil and petroleum jelly to soak in. Talk about butter fingers.

I absolutely love the Mary Kay Yellow Concealer. My face is just naturally ruddy, and if I don't have it on people ask me if I'm sick because I look feverish. If I use the green ones you find in drugstores I look like death and get even more questions.

I'm all for coconut oil. Put it in your skin, put it in your hair, eat the damn thing (well eat the edible type, not the 'for your hair' type lol)

I've been showering with Aveeno® Active Naturals® Positively Nourishing™ Calming Body Wash with Lavender, Chamomile & Ylang-ylang. It calms and relaxes while soothing my skin.

For about twenty minutes every morning, I stink real pretty because that there liquid soap is what I rolled in.

I also use an Aveeno® Active Naturals® Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream on my hands, it's got colloidal oatmeal, it's fragrance-free, and it soothes the patch of dry, itchy, irritated skin on my hand that keeps coming back (I assume it's from cooking, cleaning, and washing dishes). It really works wonders, though, I like this lotion better than any others I've tried.

Well I went off looking for that Aveeno Creamy Oil, and while I liked the feel, I'm not a fan of the scent- a little too sweet (vanilla, oatmeal, creamy?) for me. Ah well. I'll always have Kiehl's.

I like Aveeno products in general, so I'll keep an eye out. I tend to use the basic aveeno lotion though.

TPS, the scent disappears very quickly, at least in the British version, which I'm thinking isn't going to be too different from the American one. The UK version smells slightly of almond. The Creamy Oil sinks in much quicker than a lotion too.

That's true, it does seem the scent of the little bit I put on in the store faded quickly.

I really want to try this one molecule stuff now, because it sounds perfect, I love figs, and I'm forever in search of the right perfume. I considered Tendré for a bit but the top notes seem to fade quickly. I've been using Herrera as a base for strange mixtures and it really is too grand old dame on its own.
I like The Cut's reviews of All the products, because someone needs to do that. I reassured me I lucked into an appropriate bb cream and it proves the lipstick case that keeps getting me stopped in security lines was totally worth it.
I'm running through the many many samples I've accrued in my forays. Chanel creams invariably have that one thing that does something really wrong to my skin in its weakest state. All my senses fluctuate with my health and my skin resilience is one of them, sometimes allergy prone, sometimes resistant.

The two skin/cream brands which have never done me wrong are Sisley and La Prairie, maybe throw La Mer in there, but I never buy them. They are gifts that I use so sparingly they last forever.
For nail polishes I really like Chanel lacquers, for unique color and quality. For serious makeup, I favor MAC, but apparently I need to go to Vegas for the good stuff.

I buy knock off Aveeno wash and cheap shampoo, but anything that sits for any time or I want quality and complexity from, I will spend on, because while I can make about anything, it's way cheaper to buy the thing than its components when we speak of pigments, balms and perfumes. Counter people love me, so I work the testers and freebies. A sephora woman is all set to load me up with the few weapons I lack in my arsenal on their appointed freebie day.

As much as I enjoy high drag, most of the time I feel like it's putting lipstick on a pig and go very minimal with a dash of something, which still freaks out the locals. Wow, I hate the locals.

I am also interested in this molecule stuff.

Recently I've gotten the Revlon lip butters and they are really good and smooth. I got 2, one has some sparkly and the other is just sheer color and I recommend the kind without sparkle. It is much creamier and nicer feeling, and feels almost like the Fresh Sugar line (also, 1/3 the price).

I'm also into the L'oreal age defying spf 15 day lotion and the night cream. I hardly ever re-buy facial products but I got my second round! Maybe I'll settle in to this as my product and routine. The thing I like most is that the day lotion doesn't sting at all around my eyes like most spf does, and the night lotion is rich feeling without making me greasy or break out at all.

TPS and other NYers, there is a new beauty store called Harmon's which is on 22 and 6th I think and my friend Meredith got amazing deals there last week and said all the cosmetics were at least 50 cents to $2 cheaper than Duane Reade.
Also, it is owned by Bed Bath and Beyond and the rumor is that coupons carry over there as well, which would be AMAZING if true.

I'm an Oil of Olay girl myself. The original, just for my face. Keeps my forehead from flaking in winter. My mom really likes the Aveeno lotion, too.

I also like the Suave shampoo -- specifically, the Nexus knockoff. Smells like coconut. But my favorite shampoo's the $1.37 VO5 strawberry shit. Gets my hair literally "squeaky clean" (can double as floor cleaner).

Best thing I ever did for my skin, though, is shower less. Once or twice a week at most, especially in winter. I used to itch and flake from head to toe, but haven't had a problem for years since I cut down on showering. Keeps people from sitting too close on the subway, too.

I'm very sensitive to any kind of perfume smell. Fruity scents like strawberry, mango, or coconut I like, though. There's a pomegranate body wash I like (SoftSoap or CVS brand). Most deodorants are too perfumy or floral for me. Ban Vanilla, when I can find it, or Secret Vanilla are good, though (I order a box at a time from Amazon, cause it's so hard to find). I like vanilla candles, too. Jon says I smell like a cookie.

Fragrance: I've fallen in love with Ginestet Botrytis. Even if I could afford it I don't have the kind of social life that offers occasions to actually wear anything so intense, but now and then I take out my tiny decanted sample vial and inhale it, just for the pleasure of it.

I have hand eczema also, and moisturizing a ton does help, so I will look out for the Aveeno stuff. Right now I love Lush's Sympathy for the Skin. I like almond/vanilla scents, but also fruity stuff. Just no perfumey flowery fragrances.

Hugh Janus, wear rubber gloves when doing dishes and cleaning! It makes a big difference. Soap and water are the enemy of eczema.

I work from home so can skip some days showering, which helps my skin, but there was an AskMe recently about stinky people, and I just wanted to scrub myself raw. And it's still summer here, so even if no one is going to smell me, I need a shower.

I got my hair highlighted for the first time, and was told to use sulfate free shampoo, which is taking some getting used to. It doesn't get so lathery, although my hair seems clean. Any recommendations for that?

Wens, I wonder if Lush's Blousey shampoo would work for you. It has one sulfate ingredient, but it is designed for processed hair and it is very gentle, I can tell you from experience. That's often what I use with my henna bar.

rmless, the Molecule 01 perfume is sold at Barneys. It's such a strange scent - you can't smell it on yourself, so make sure you spray some onto your clothing as well as your skin.

I try to do natural as much as possible. I make my own fragrances from essential oils or buy them already blended. I use coconut oil, rose hip oil (Miranda Kerr's secret weapon, supposedly) or ghee (I make it myself) as moisturizers. I use manuka honey as a skin mask. My favorite place to buy sugar scrubs and essential oil perfumes is haus of gloi . The site is ugly, and annoying to navigate, but the smells are glorious.

I was telling someone earlier my all time favorite soap was Soapy Hollow's Three Kings. I don't know if she makes it any more but nothing has quite compared. Same with this tiny bottle of something generically called "light musk" from some place in California I got from some witchy shop a billion years ago.
