A friend of mine had her computer die last week. So my only plans are to piece together a usable one for her this weekend. My apartment looks like newegg circa 2008 exploded. I should be able to piece together something that can at least work for Office and the Internet for her.
I did my chores this morning and so my house is nice and clean but I need to make 2 pans of mac and cheese this evening for parties this weekend. I also still need to sew a new red hipscarf for the sword performance tomorrow. And then I need to finish sewing on the new silver bra so I can take that over to Ashton tomorrow to put the interfacing on it.
Tomorrow I have dance class in the morning, a meeting with my Spirit person, nipping to Ashton to deal with the interfacing hopefully, and then off to a house party about an hour or so away to perform the sword choreography.
Sunday I have work and then meeting with my sisters afterwards to talk to the one of us who is going before the counsel of elders that afternoon.
Picking up flex from the airport very early in the morning.
Saturday: Statue of Liberty meetup, then later on cocktails and dinner.
Sunday: Meeting friends who are in town from NC at Central park for a playdate at 9am (that will be fun after a late night), then beer garden meetup in the afternoon.
A little cleaning, a little cooking, more laziness no doubt. It's been a gloriously lazy summer this year. Maybe Jon and I will wander over to the beer garden Sunday, say hi. (You and he can compare x-rays, 'pode ; )
I went to the farm shop this morning and stocked up on all the veg I'll need for the next few days for my Juice Reboot (Day 20 today).
Tomorrow I'm going for a run, early in the morning, unless it's raining. Storms are forecast over the next few days. I also need to find some turmeric root. I went in several of the Turkish greengrocers round here, but turmeric isn't something you find in Turkish food, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow when I'm in Walthamstow for my run, and pick some up in one of the Indian places.
Apart from that, I'll be making juice, and trying to stay cool.
For my part, I am going to try and kick this cold outta my head. I've been sick for nearly a week. I blame my four year old nephew for being the disease vector. It's so rare that I get sick, there is usually a child involved. This time I am giving my own nephew a snotty stink-eye.
Because I have been so freaking sick most of the week, my Saturday will be largely comprised of playing catch-up on a project I should have finished by now. Baking and any fun kitchen stuff is either off the list altogether or may get done late tomorrow afternoon.
Just back from our cruise! It was a nice time. I suspect most of the weekend will be spent unpacking, grocery shopping to fill our empty fridge, and....rest, I guess.
1. warm As northerners (we're at the same latitude as Newfoundland) we tend to adore all the precious little sun we get. But yesterday temperatures rose to 35° C. (95 F) I'm sure people in Phoenix will scoff. But it's almost the all time high of recorded temperature in NL. I came to the conclusion that as a Dutchman my natural habitat is drizzle and grey skies. And not this 'sun' business.
2. music I've been using my commute drive to practise singing. Yesterday I recorded myself for the first time. And I'm surprised that it sounds not bad at all. I was counting on sounding weird because of how sound transforms when traveling through the bone of our skull. Although I think I'll have to accept after 35 yrs of singing Johnny Cash songs that I don't quite sound like him. That his natural voice is slightly deeper than mine. Curses!
Also I've been eyeing saxophones on marktplaats.nl. (ebay) It's horrible how easily one upgrades from looking at basic saxes to up market saxes. Also you can spend hours trying to find out the merits of old saxophone brands. I've put myself on a cool off period. To prevent the classic phenomenon of the middle age guy with a musical instrument / road bike / camera etc that's very expensive but hardly used. Maybe women are (statistically!) less prone to gear lust.
3. crawl I've started to swim during the lunch break. I'm starting at 15 mins of effective swimming. For some reason I can't seem to pace myself when crawling. So I'm totally spent after 15 mins. But I'll gradually increase towards 30 mins. There's something about the crawl swimming technique that's very enjoyable. Turns out that crawl is not that hard once you employ the right basic technique. I taught myself using this very informative Australian site. Highly recommended.
Got up at 4:30 AM this morning, went to work, am now resting my feet. Same scenario tomorrow.
There's ever present cleaning to be done.
I made some wonderful pesto last night and have gobs left over, so that means something fabulous tonight, but I don't know what. I haven't cooked any meat since last weekend (fresh local fish), so I'm thinking chicken sounds good with pesto and maybe a splurge of pasta. Plus, at HarrrisTeeter, I scored some lovely rfqs* snow peas and baby corn to enjoy as a raw side.
I've a recipe for sweet potato brownies that's calling my name.
I need to weed flower beds, water vegetables and mow grass/weeds.
I have a farmer's tan from my ankles down, so will do outside stuff (except for mowing) with bare feet or flip flops.
I've not made it to the beach this year and hope to force myself there Sunday afternoon for a swim.
Oh! I picked up Charles Frazier's book Nightwoods at the thrift store. Yay, anticipation of a good read!
