30 July 2013

For my 300th post, I'd like to dedicate this to my husband... ...for he is taking the U.S. bar exam today and needs all the mojo he can get. [More:]

In more personal news, I got off of my butt and registered my LLC and opened up a business account. This is in preparation for a more serious attempt to start a small press editing/publishing career.

I also have a job interview for a part-time receptionist job, and if I can get that job and still work at being an editor/publisher, then that would be super-awesome and would make the residual angst I feel about having left NYC for Minneapolis recede even further into the distance.

How are you guys doing today?
Best wishes to your hubby! And good for you! And as an NYC transplant to Seattle, I still think that move was one of my wisest decisions. You did the right thing.

Oh, man. I do not envy him. Good luck mojo headed due North.

Thinking good luck thoughts to your husband!

Congrats on your LLC & interview.

My boss gave me the okay to post the job listing for an accounting assistant position to replace the one that left in May, so that's happy! Now the fun of weeding through craigslist resumes...

Good Luck To Both Of You !

Best of luck to you both. I'm sure your husband will sail through the exam.

I'm doing well today. I've been working from home, and my day was very productive. I was meant to go for a run with a friend this afternoon but it's poured with rain all day. Booo!

Tonight is a TV night - with Friday Night Lights winding down to the end of its final season. Tim Riggins is out of prison, and looking good as ever ...

Good luck to him! I was convinced until the results came out that I had failed ALL the questions, so maybe keep telling him what a rock star he is while he frets.

When my brother took the Connecticut bar years ago, he locked himself in a motel room for two weeks to study. Tough stuff. Hope it went well!

Good luck (very late!)!

Did he find out immediately? Or does he have to wait for results to be mailed/emailed?

Oh no, agonizing wait is de rigeur, occhiblu.

Yes, agonizing wait is agonizing. The MN bar results come out on October 5, which is about a week before our wedding celebration.

Oh, and part two is today, which is the 200-question multiple choice part. He feels he did very well on the closed universe essay/argument part and the other essays. He's not as stressed about the multiple choice. Of course, I am still being cautiously optimistic.

And the two most interesting parts are that a) we are never moving to another state/area inside the U.S. other than NY, NJ, and Washington DC because he never wants to take the bar exam again and b) the only way he'd ever accept a job outside the country would be if it paid a lot of money because he also doesn't want to go through what it takes for a foreign lawyer/attorney to get admitted to overseas bars/equivalent organizations.

I do not regret dropping out of law school (most days). Sounds like he's doing very well, though. In terms of taking another bar, maybe it's like what they say about giving birth -- you forget enough of the pain after awhile to have another! (Not that I can speak to that one personally either.)

Teacher Certification exams are much easier, just long. In NY, three four-hour exams. Easy, though (on the basic skills exam, I only missed one question).

For your publishing business, TL, are you considering traditional or ePublishing (or both)? I looked into ePublishing at one point -- seems very cost effective, especially if you can do the formatting yourself.

My poor sister has managed over the length of her career to take the bar 5 times in 4 states.
