Knitting on the beach I just posted a post on vintage knitted swimwear (because it all used to be knitted) I'm rather proud of. Brace yourselves for that first picture.
Fun post.
I'm one of those people who finds wool unbearably itchy, and there is not much I can think of that I would less like to have on my delicate parts than scratchy, heavy wet wool.
Good thing I didn't live in those times.
All knitted? Wasn't most of it really sewn from woven fabric?
I love early swimming costumes. I have this perverse dream to have a full 1890-ish swimming costume made for myself, to parade around in. I try to get LT to buy into this vision. WE could rent ourselves out for parties and stuff.
The first couple of women's bathing dresses in my post were probably woven wool fabric, but the others all appear to be knitted, though they were machine rather than hand-knitted.
Oh, I hadn't looked at the post thought you were talking about swimsuits in general when you said "it all used to be knitted;" of course it was knitting that was the innovation after decades of sewn fabric suits. Nice images in the post.
