Good things/Bad things [More:]Good things: Since my mom retired in January, we've been able to spend some Tuesdays (my day off) together - just us. Usually going for pedicures, but other things as well. It's so nice at this stage to just have time to spend with Mom.

Good Thing: While on the way back from the nail appointment, I found two box turtles trying to cross the road. So I did what I do, crossed both of them in the direction they were headed. I love saving turtles!

Bad Thing: My central air is on the fritz - again. Two weeks ago I needed a new wire; now the blades aren't spinning. Repairman is coming out tomorrow (praying it's not expensive!)

Bad Thing: My electric bill jumped by $100.00 in a month! I called, mainly because I would like to know why one of my living room lights blinks when my NEIGHBORS central air comes on (we all have our own utilities). Electric company checked and found nothing out of whack..and also told me that the higher bill could simply be due to issues with the central air. Keeping fingers crossed.

Good thing : I've detoxed from starchy carbs and my diet is going well.

Good thing : Out with friends on Thursday and Friday.

Good thing : neighbours have cut down conifers in their garden and it's made a big difference to the light in my tiny bathroom.

Bad thing : I can now see all the water marks on the shower.

Bad thing : My two trusting foxes (one who knocked on the door for his treats and let me hand-feed him, and another with a floppy ear) haven't been around for a while.

Bad thing : On my walk to the station yesterday morning I found a dead fox on the road. It wasn't one of 'my' foxes. He was at a place in the road where if he'd been left, it was only a matter of time before he was mangled by traffic, so I picked him up by his stiff, dead paw and carried him over to the pavement. He was gone by the time I came home, the council pick up roadkill.

Bad thing : A friend across the street is moving. She's one of the few renters, and the new owner of her apartment now wants to live there. The new owner has a dog, a huge German Shepherd. These are small apartments ...

redvixen,

It could very well be that you bill is related to you central air issues. Your unit has a capacitor that charges to give the first "kick" of current to start your unit. If the capacitor is bad that could mean that your main unit is drawing a lot of current to start. Even if it doesn't start I might still draw a big load. Mention this to the repair person. Although, if they are any good they will check it anyway.

As far as why your lights might dim when the neighbor's unit comes on... Well you're all probably on the same main line. So their capacitor may be failing as well. I could be totally wrong here. But it doesn't hurt to check it out.

Good Thing: one of my amazing friends did something epically nice for me today.

Bad Thing: two of my friends made me feel really really super crappy today, independently of each other, and it's not even worth trying to explain it to them.

Bad Thing: I accidentally really offended a good friend today, and no amount of apologies or trying to explain why I really mess up with how the words come out sometimes is making me less ashamed of myself.

Good Thing: I got a good lesson that everyone can be an asshole sometimes, even if they don't mean to, so I am trying to learn to be more forgiving.

Good thing: I got a lovely care package from a good friend today, with nice treats for both me and the kittens.

Bad thing: I really really really need clients.

Good thing: Lack of work means lots of kitten time.

Good thing: I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and went to a professionals' networking meeting this morning.

Bad thing: While the individual people at the meeting seemed nice, I don't think the group is going to work for me, mainly because it'd be a kind of substantial financial and time commitment.

Good thing: The local chamber of commerce has a "young professionals" group that I think might be a better fit, and so I've got an email in asking about upcoming events.

Good thing: My boss told me not to bother looking for another job in August; they're going to renew my contract (though I'll wait til I get it in writing to really celebrate).

Bad thing: Just no energy to do things once I get home from work. Namely clean my apartment. And sheesh, I've got houseguests coming because:

Good thing: My birthday is this week!

Good thing: Typewriter is doing its job of getting me to develop daily writing discipline.

Good: Today was presumably the last Save Pennsylvania's Past workshop, so I'm done with making the trek up to York every so often (hour and a half one way, ugh)

Bad: I also had dance class tonight which meant I was out of the house for over 12 hours today which tends to make me cranky.

Good: The performance pieces for the Sunday show look like they're going to be good.

Bad: I'm very nervous about having 2 shows on the same weekend.

Good: At least there are different pieces for the different shows.

Bad: 2 shows on the same weekend!

Good: My zar CD came today and while I'm not necessarily digging the music on it, the liner notes are really what I wanted since I might be teaching a workshop on that in December.

Bad: How the fuck did I get this busy?

Good: I get to clean and organize everything, and find a proper place for things.
Bad: I have to clean and organize everything, and find a proper place for things.
Good: This is freaking hardcore exercise.
Bad: This is freaking hardcore exercise.
Good: I could come up with these for the next hour.
Bad: You get the picture.

Good & Bad: I saw The Bees slip out of somewhere when I got back a few hours ago, but not since. She's filthy from hiding in filthy places before and after moving, but at least I can put flea medicine on her before attempting a good wash. Except now I think I need to get shampoo and I bet she is in the basement because I'm testing the washer & dryer and there is possibly a century of filth down there. This house is so old, it has no phone line at all, but it seems pretty squared up & stable, esp. compared to the ridiculous bulldozer bait shack I was in.

Bad: It took two and a half weeks to get Finnegans Wake from the Amazon seller. What do they use for delivery? Oxen?

More bad: It took less than a day for me to leave the book on my bus.

But it's all good anyway I guess: I'm kinda getting into reading it online anyway. Easy to jump back and forth between the text and a helpful annotation key. And the MeFi reading group on Goodreads is really keeping me on track.

Good: I am the person a friend calls when she needs someone to listen.

Good: a friend from Raleigh will visit this weekend and help sort out some non-working equipment.

Good: I fired my horrible, evil, Napoleonic boss. And I am proud that I stood up for my humanity.

Good: I've had time to read.

Good: planning a trip to Colorado this fall to see family.

Bad: new manager at big box store is awful and most of the good employees have quit.

Bad: potential high winds again. At least it's a good primer for tha predicted very active hurricane season.
