I dunno, but the first time pre-adolescent me saw an image that stirred something 'different' in his mind was a video in which some woman climbs a large contraption, hooks her knees into it and hangs off of it. Recently I think I've found what it was: Prince's "Cream" video. Damn you, Prince! Ruining kids since the 70s
Senyar, back when my mom and dad met, at Carleton College in Minnesota, there were two Peter Thorkelsons. The one everybody liked went by Peter, sans middle initial, and the standoffish, unpopular one was called "Peter H." Eventually Peter Halsten Thorkelson moved to Greenwich Village for the folk music scene and became Peter Tork.
Wow, that's fascinating, Hugh. I know his life after The Monkees wasn't great, he ended up in prison for a time. But when I was 8 years old The Monkees were everything. (This was, of course, pre-Donny Osmond, My One True Love...)
As i said in the thread, Morten from Aha. Add to that River Phoenix when he was in Stand By Me and ralph Macchio when he was in The Outsiders. Ah to be 10 again...(ok those films were 3 years apart but it's about right...)
Merlin Olsen, aka "Jonathan Garvey" on Little House On The Prairie. I was still pretty young watching that show in the 70s, but I was like... hrm. I think I'd like to live at Mr. Garvey's house. (I didn't even know Olsen was an NFL player until much later.)
Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in The Avengers (NOT MARVEL). Narrowly edging out Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 in Get Smart. Because kick-ass lady spies were perfect for 10-year-old me. (Seeing Diana Rigg doing kick-ass old lady roles in Game of Thrones and Doctor Who should've been devastating, but she did The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries 15 years ago, so I was prepared)
For me, it was Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. I recall her being the first one to ever make me somewhat uncomfortable watching her, as I recognized that my enjoyment was not entirely wholesome.
