OMG SAFEWAY! [More:]
Yes, the Safeway mega-chain of supermarkets (known locally for me as Vons because they bought out a local chain that had been around for a hundred years) has changed the design of their house brand toilet paper package to include... A BUNNY! (That's just the regular TP package; not pictured: the Extra Strong TP package with a swan and the Extra Soft TP package with two baby ducks)
A bear and a rabbit cross paths in the forest. The bear asks, "Do you have trouble getting poop out of your fur?" The rabbit says, "No, not at all." So the bear grabs the rabbit and wipes his ass with it.

Safeway is one of those west-coast stores like Frys that I always hear about but have never actually seen in person.

My experience, Safeways are the most expensive grocery stores in town. Customers pay for presentation--the faux wood plank floor in the produce section, the grape vines and arbors enclosing the wines, you know the type.

On the plus side, they seem to be the only chain that has mastered olive bars in their delis and their selection of high-end packaged meats and cheeses is rivaled only by independent specialty shops.

Safeway/Vons has mastered the ClubCard/ElectronicCoupon/Website trifecta to make a complicated but reliable* system for paying 30-40% less than their shelf prices... assuming what you want matches what they want to sell, which for me is quite often, and that you have enough spare time to go through the whole ridiculous process, which I usually do. They even have "personalized prices" providing incentives for repurchasing things you have already bought from them, usually before you had intended to buy again. It allowed me to fill my pantry with supplies for the Zombie Apocalypse at a discount, but I must resist the urge to buy any more of most of it until 2016.

So yes, their base prices are among the worst in the area, but they are, in my opinion, the most hackable.

*I ALWAYS also take the time to check to make sure all the price reductions I set up on the webpage went through and in two years have only had 3 instances when they didn't, and in all 3 cases, I went back and got money back. Worth the trouble, but only if your time is cheap like mine.
