19 April 2013

Friday 3-point update [More:]
1. I ordered some new specs today. As always, they cost silly money (£485) but there are so many variables on my prescription that the chain-store bargain offers just don't work for me, and I can't order online as I have to be measured by a hooman.

2. I went to a fantastic lecture last night by Dr Chris French. It was funny and informative, I really enjoyed it. He debunked a number of 'paranormal phenomena' in a really entertaining way.

3. I *really* want Michelle's coat from last night's Project Runway.
1. At Ebertfest in Illinois this week. Bittersweet as you'd expect but still such an awesome movie geek experience and Chaz Ebert is carrying on with the show in the way that only she can. In the Family is one of the best and most honest films I've seen in a while. Bernie was very funny and getting to see Days of Heaven on a big screen was glorious.
2. Cold as heck here, down into the low thirties.
3. Fighting with a tweaked back to continue my half marathon training. Race is in two weeks and my training totally went to shit when I pulled my back.

1. pff. Just home from a intense workweek. So time for a nice LöwenWeiße.
2. next week: coronation day. I'm against hereditary offices. But still it's a momentous national event that only comes around every 3 decades or so. I can't deny being excited.
I'll see if my local tailor can alter my orange suit jacket in time. (it needs to be made more narrow around the waist. cut is everything after all)
I'm hoping that my 4 yr old daughter will enjoy the atmosphere of everybody dressing up in bright orange. She's been fascinated by princess dresses. So seeing that there are real princesses might be of interest. And the knowledge that they live in her town and are around her age.
3. I'm going to watch either Bates Motel (Vera Farmiga is great) or Hannibal (nice photography). And play my eighties guitar (Steinberger).

1. Just went through the 2nd round of interviews for a job here where I work that is probably already decided but hey you never know and HR probably could use yet another copy of my resume. Now I gotta cough up references (after working here for years!) and a writing sample.

2. Really got to do yard work this weekend. Raking, mostly. Things are coming up through the leaves; they need to breathe.

3. If things ever get back to normal in Boston I can go fetch my father's 1940s typewriter, which is waiting for me in a shop in Arlington after having been cleaned. Looking forward to being able to use it after all these years my sister kept it in a garage down in Florida.

1. I was thinking earlier, boy, wish I had a TV show to watch; Senyar reminds me that I haven't watched any of this season's Project Runway! And they're all online, hurray! I know what Ollie and I are doing tonight :D
2. I keep getting robocalls in Spanish from a Queens high school for a student; just got another one just now. Not totally sure what they saying; something about attendance, I think? Just called back and left a message; hopefully they will take my number out of her record.
3. Tomorrow is my 30th birthday! No big plans. We went to see "Buyer and Cellar" at the Rattlestick on Wednesday; it was AWESOME! Michael Urie is great. Brunch on Sunday, maybe some sightseeing tomorrow? Eh, I dunno.

Wait, they are not all online! Only the last 5. Oh well. That's enough for an evening!

I had this open before midnight, but was too busy reading Mefi.

1. Finally starting to get my wind back after many evenings of not enough sleep. Granted, they've been good evenings, but I need at least 8 hours a night to not be completely fucking useless.

2. Getting real tired of my mother bitching at me for having a life because that means I can't go to yard sales. Believe me, I love a good yard sale, but I have dance class Saturday morning from 10-11. And we're prepping for a show in June. She also says that I'm leaving my cat alone too much. He's a cat. I think he can handle it.

3. I have skipped my North meditation 2 days in a row. Thursday I had a bad headache, but I went out for my run anyways. Friday I napped too much and got home too late. Shit.

Making mine a Saturday 3 point since Friday was a bust.

1. Washing/cleaning anything made of cloth in our bedroom today. Sheets, blankets, dust ruffle, headboard cover, various and sundry pillow cases, etc. My husband's spring allergies are off the chain, and somehow they get worse at night. I don't wash my hair every day, and since his allergies are so bad, I am the only one outside with the dog. I suspect I am the cause of his allergies, but we'll wash the bedding to make him feel better. I'll also wash my hair, I guess.

2. More cleaning of a part of our house we only use when guests come, because we have a guest coming! A dear old friend has decided to make Chapel Hill his out of the way-station for his trip home. We see him in his hometown all the time, but he rarely visits ours. He's such wonderful person, we can't wait to see him.

3. I saw the new Danny Boyle ("Trance") the other night with some friends, and I think I may drag my husband out to go see it again tonight. It is intriguing.

1. Feeling much better today than yesterday, when I was flat-out exhausted. Sleeping for 11 hours helped.

1a. Apartment hunting sucks. A lot.

2. Lovely day in Davis and it's Picnic Day, the UC Davis Open House, which will involve a lot of people bringing a lot of farm and domestic animals around to interact with ME! As well as dachshund races.

3. Sniffle sniffle sniffle sniffle sniffle snork. I don't think of myself as having allergies but the pollen here is just so intense that I guess it defeats everyone after a while.

Late to the party but.

1. Ran 12 miles this morning in 1h 53 minutes. I will never set the world on fire, but I am putting in a solid pace.

2. Half marathon next Saturday. Looking forward to it. NOT looking forward to coming home on the subway with potential unpredictable gastric happenings. Runners, you know what I'm talking about.

3. Just as I was typing point #1 my husband walked in, having opened today's mail. We got a check back from our mortgage company from our escrow account. Not a lot of money, but unexpected money is always exciting.

Very late to the party, but:

1. GODDAMNIT, Minnesota, will you fucking stop receiving snow?!

2. Settling down nicely into the job, despite a minor bit of paranoia today wherein I thought the poor woman who has to input all the life insurance and brokerage applications for half of the office was complaining about how I was asking her simple questions. Thank God my boss told me she wasn't complaining about me.

3. I think I will make Mondays my "Stay a little later at the office" days so that my boss can feel okay about having to stay at the office to make her necessary phone calls for appointments.
