The thing that struck me about all of these photos was that she wore a lot of flats and short heels, which I had never noticed before. Google says she was 5'7" tall - I didn't know that.
There's something anthropologically interesting about the enduring allure of Audrey Hepburn.
When I see her in Breakfast at Tiffanny's for instance I'm struck how her body seems uncommonly like a young boys. I.e. rather prepubescent.
It's easy to come up with some pop-psych theory: We grow up with ideas of gender from very early on. F.i. my daughter has been fascinated with dresses, tiaras, ballet, pink from the age of about 3. I recall being positively spellbound at an age when I couldn't read by the fire truck and firemen and firefighting gear in Five Little Firemen.
So maybe women are fascinated by the look of Audrey Hepburn because it exemplifies a pre-sexual idea of adult femininity.
And then when we hit puberty we find out that having a ridiculously cool fire engine and fire axe does not result in much wanted recognition from the opposite sex.
(mutatis mutandis for the genderifically non-straight laced)
Fashion is often a cultural response, ex.: Ekberg vs. Hepburn.
Coming out of a very bombshell heavy era, she was salient and refreshing. Like the neon of the eighties vs the avocado/mustard/tans of the late seventies, volume vs body con. etc. etc.
