Are you kidding me? Neighbor reports suspicious activity, police arrive, suspecting meth lab. Fail. It's a maple grove, sugaring off. In spring, maple trees are tapped, and a bucket is placed to collect sap. The sap is boiled down to become syrup. I want to know who thinks meth comes from trees.
Hoooollly....

That's one of the best such stories I've ever heard. A friend has a similar one from NH about the "new neighbors" calling in the fire department for sugaring-off...but meth lab, that's a better story.

Great story. Meth comes from trees? HAHA Probably not a lot of sugaring being done that a-way.

It always amazes me how much sugar it takes to make a commercial quantity of syrup. It's a real labor of love.

My neighbor's little son used to love making a little syrup for his pancakes by boiling down sugar on the wood stove. It would take forever but he had so much fun.

On another level, if I had to listen to that nice woman in the video use the wrong form of the verb "to see" one more time, I would have put myself on the boil.

If only meth came from trees! Can't wait to get back up to VT. It's the best smelling week of the year.

It is the best smelling week. I've had two jobs where I got to do sugaring. I loved it. It's awesome to hang around all day in the sugarhouse and come home smelling of rich woodsmoke and sweet sap, with your hair a little crispy from crystallized sugar.

Too funny.

But also makes me think longingly of letting maple syrup sugar candy melt in my mouth, and pouring real maple syrup over buttermilk waffles. Who needs meth?!
